I am working on a Zodiac Project, and although this site is and always will be free,I am accepting donations for anybody that wants to help.

I am going to put in requests for social security applications of various Zodiac suspects that are now deceased. These applications should have hand printed information and samples.

In addition to all of the well known suspects, there are lots of them as well in the unredacted police reports too. There is a good chance in obtaining these, to examine the printed writing of these individuals, and hopefully, maybe spot some writing that may be a match to Zodiac’s.

These requests are $30 a piece, and can take several weeks to complete. I will be happy to do all the leg work, and put in the requests for the paperwork.

I myself have a list of at least a dozen names, and I would like to hear from everybody else what names they would like to see on the list.

If you want to take part in this, and can help with donations, please PM me. Thanks! :)

morf,
when you receive a soc. sec. app., what type of information do you typically get to see? Is it only a signature or is there more? Just wondering, never done it.

morf recently posted a Ross Sullivan’s SS app., if you’d like to see a sample.

Yeah, they usually will have alot of basic info, date of birth, parents names, place born, address, etc. It is enough to get us a good sample of writing, probably not enough to positively rule somebody in or out, but maybe give us a real good idea.

Once again, the person MUST BE dead. We need to provide proof of death, such as a listing in the SS death index, death cert, etc. Also, people that died over 5 years ago, usually have their ss# listed on sites like ancestry.com. If they died within last 5 years, their ss# is not listed on ancestry, and I have to check into if it is possible to obtain their ss# without havng the SS# itself for newly deceased suspects

Maybe we can initially discuss and examine our findings in the new ‘TOP SECRET’ suspects section, and then if warranted, carry useful stuff over onto the main board.

I submitted for 10 social security applications today, of various suspects and POI’s.
As I get results, I will post them here for examination, and discussion.

Some people have mentioned the possibility of getting Lawrence Kane/Cane’s ss application, which I could certainly do, but the details are very sketchy on him, and I need some solid and correct information on him to do the request. Also, a couple people have mentioned that I should request Mr X’s ss application, and personally, I think that will be a waste of time,as I simply do not think there is any chance he is zodiac, but I still may add him to the list.

I appreciate the donations so far, and the offers for donations. Every bit helps and is appreciated. Thanks

I really admire your fortitude and willingness to do this but am wondering if it will really be all that helpful. Maybe it is my eyes, but I am going "buggy" trying to compare these different handwritings/printings and they all seem to look very much alike after a very short while (especially the printing).

Have you tried experimenting with your own printing and thought it looked just like some of these? I have and see that it would be very easy for most anyone to forge any of these printings without all that much difficulty. I can naturally print "A’s" and "M’s" that look almost identical.

Sure, anybody could forge their writing to make it look more like zodiac’s, but if we has Zodiac’s social security application, (if one of these suspects is zodiac),we may find a match. I have found some very good matches between James Owen & Z so far. It’s a longshot, but is the only way perhaps, to get printing samples from some of these guys

Well at least we can be sure that their SS application will be in their normal printing style. They shouldn’t have had their guard up to hide their normal printing when they applied for SSN.
And I agree Capricorn that many printing styles can resemble each other. Z did have some unique lettering, so if we can find an exemplar with multiple similarities it may be worth the exploration. It also may eliminate some POI’s, which also would be great…..
