@sandy-betts Those points seem reasonable. I was just speculating for whatever that’s worth. With most of the focus being on Zodiac stashing a car near by and driving away, I think we shouldn’t forget that there are other options. I didn’t know about the accident – you always seem to know really interesting tidbits, Sandy! That’s interesting.
Z’s attacks the previous three times were lonely locations accessible by car. They were controllable. He always seemed to have a strategy that he improved upon with each attempt. The premise of this thread is that Z changed for Stine but maybe he didn’t? There are a lot of similarities if you look. He could control the situation by car as before with a taxi driver by taking him out somewhere lonely and being able to read the area upon arrival. And he was really close to his preffered killing spot of a park area – this one in the Presidio. To me, at least, this opens up the possibility that maybe his original plan was to take the taxi into that area and kill a couple of people after he killed the driver – sort of a Jack the Ripper multiple murders in one night homage.
Whether that was the case or not, he had some kind of preparation for this attack. I’m not sure how likely that scenario is but it doesn’t seem out of the realm of reason. Considering the killings ended after, as far as is generally considered canonical, maybe he couldn’t do it because he just couldn’t drive/lost his car. If he was an average joe with a low paying day job like a lot of people think, transportation issues are the norm with those in that situation. If he had mental issues like a lot of people think, he mighta had his drivers license or car taken away. I still think there is merit in drawing a line between Washington + Cherry and Mason + Geary and looking at residences in the middle for suspects. Zodiac did take off on foot in that general direction and Washington/Cherry is a walkable distance that isn’t too close to home.
Again, I’m not sure that’s the most likely scenario, just one that we shouldn’t forget is possible.
I have found many Z like murders long after Paul Stine. Let’s not forget Zodiac did say he would continue killing and not announce which ones were his. As most know I have a suspect whom I don’t have his full name yet, who worked in construction. At each of his murders, there was huge construction going on, like what was at RCC in 1966 as well as in Lompoc for Domingos and Edwards. All but at Lake Berryessa 1969. I am working on a new find for a victim in Eureka Ca. 1975. Her name is Janet Lee Bowman age 19. She lived on Pigeon Point Rd. She was headed back home “hitchhiking”. I looked for any construction in her area and found on Zillow last week, a home for sale at 2779 Pigeon Point Rd. That home was built in 1975! It is surrounded by concrete, which is one one the things my Honcho suspect does! She was strangled and left nude, they weren’t able to prove she had been raped. Her body was found by an anonymous letter!( I want to see the writing on that letter)
He changed because that is what his MO is. He changed his weapons pretty much each time he killed. I believe he escalated and did up close strangulation, as well as beat his victims. ( He gave a clue when he sent the Eureka card in Dec 1990.) It wasn’t just to try and frame Chester Klingle. I think he wanted to draw attention to possible previous crimes in Eureka. I am looking at one victim named Janet Lee Bowman age 19, missing Sept 30th, 1975 ( Close to the Sept 27th anniversary at Lake Berryessa 1969) She was beaten and strangled and was found after the sheriff’s dept “received a letter” letting them know where her body was!
At the time the detective didn’t think it was written by the killer? I would like to see that letter! Her body was found nearly nude, but no proof she was raped. She lived on Pigeon Point Rd Eureka and hitched rides because she didn’t have a car. She was last seen heading back to her apt. I have shown that in every crime except Lake B, there was large construction going on at the time very close to each crime. We know he claimed victims down south, and Darlene said the man she feared had been out of state for a while and must have returned. I believe he worked in construction and went all over Calif. as well as out of state.
I looked for construction near where Janet Lee Bowman lived. I found a home being built on the same street where she lived! That home was for sale on Zillow a few weeks ago and that was how I found out it was built in 1975. My suspect works with concrete, stone, brickwork, and plastering. That home is surrounded by concrete. The address is 2779 Pigeon Point Rd if you care to check it out? “Someone” also liked to bring me female clothing, I didn’t think at that time I was receiving victims’ clothes, or that they were from a serial killer! One item that I still have is a blue down jacket. I have written to companies who check RN numbers, to know when that jacket was made. Most of the items left for me were around 1982. So far I received an email today telling me the jacket was too old to know which yr it was made. It was made for JC Penny.
My suspect liked to beat his girlfriend, I was told by someone who knew him as Tony aka Anthony, but he couldn’t remember Tony’s last name. He ID’d the picture I took of my suspect in 1990. At that time, he looked to be 50 yrs old. Which matched the man I saw in Vallejo in 1969 who I felt looked to be 30 years old. He is for sure the same man I saw back in Vallejo/ Napa in 1969! The girls murdered in the Antioch/ Pittsburg area in the 80s and 90s were beaten, strangled, stabbed, and tortured. I found some who escaped from the killer who said the man I have the picture of who I call Honcho, was the man who tried to kill them! But sadly because they were prostitutes, the DA wouldn’t take their word! Even though they gave me proof they were telling me the truth, no way could they be making up the fact that the killer had a lazy eye. The DA allowed the killer to go free to kill again!
