Ok, think there is a rock solid hint including a connection between Jensen/Faraday and Ferrin/Mageau:
Larry and Linda, witnesses in the Jensen/Faraday police report, mentioned a ‘Pete’ who worked at ‘Kaiser Steel’. Completely unrelated to this – besides the fact that Z committed both crimes – is ‘Kaiser Steel’ mentioned in the Ferrin/Mageau police report, too:

‘George’ the barkeeper worked as a painter for Kaiser Steel until 13th of June. He therefore might have been known to ‘Pete’ and are both cases therefore connected to ‘Kaiser Steel’. Police checked out his address at 2118 Monroe Street, Yountville (North of Napa) and indeed found a 1964 Maroon car there.
Joseph, obviously employer of George, gave his address as 2118 Monroe Street. However, George himself gave his address as 20, Sandy Beach Road. It may be assumed that there were possibly other people involved living under one of those addresses (e.g. ‘Pete’?).
