Anyone have any notion that Z could have been a newspaper delivery boy back in the day? I know there are plenty that think he worked for a newspaper, but could he have worked at multiples as a delivery boy?

I am asking because he seemed to know streets and had a fascination with newspapers, and possibly comics and movies. As a delivery boy he would have had plenty of routes he knew to get places faster, such as cut through’s and the like. Has me wondering if he was possibly a delivery boy in some of the areas that the murders occurred since he seemed to be able to get away fairly easily, yet taunted police from nearby areas and knew his way around.

I grew up in Atlanta, and I could tell you right now that I still do not know every street around and have been here for 38 years….I don’t even know all the streets within 5 miles of my house. I read a lot about people saying he had planned routes and such, and while this could be obtained by a map, there are others that say he must have had a familiarity with the areas.

So, I was going through old newspaper articles and reading a story about a boy that killed his brother after he mail ordered a .22 pistol and it got me to thinking that maybe Z was a delivery boy and as such, had access to numerous papers from different stands he delivered to….it seems he kept up with a few of them and as evidenced by his letters, he wrote to a few of them.

…or he could have delivered newspapers on a large motor route. LHR is a bit "out in the sticks" for a bike route.

On the other hand, the area covering all the murders is rather big. Circulation manager, perhaps? He’d know several routes from memory, as he’d have to fill in for absent drivers. Hmmm…

I don’t know how it works in America, but could he have been a postman/delivery driver. A newspaper delivery route (on a bicycle no less) surely isn’t as big as say a FedEx (or 1960s equivalent) driver’s route.

Google scares me sometimes:

"Zodiac Murder Map"
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi … 6,9.788818

What leaps out at me is that BRS and LHR are fairly close together, with LB and PH way, way out on opposite sides…so I doubt that any one paper or mail route would overlap all four locations, but maybe he job-hopped.

(I used to deliver newspapers, by car, for a wide-circulation newspaper. My own daily route was 50-60 miles, others were larger. There are lots of places where it isn’t feasible to deliver by bike.)
