The SLA letter pointed me to Norse language. So I looked for info on Norse’ runes.
on Wikipedia there’s an interesting article about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runes
On the right side there’s a very interesting picture that points to Cipher Runes.
Look at the inscription top side. There are three symbols formed by 4 crossed flags. These are "Cipher Runes"
The article about Cipher Runes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cipher_runes) explains that every symbol encrypts 2 letters.
The alphabeth is divided in three groups of letters. The first flag (top-left) points to the group and the second flag (top-right) points to the letter in the group. The second letter is encrypted in the third (bottom-right) and fourth (bottom-left) flags.
So the symbol can be a cipher rune for a single letter. If so, it encrypts the letter "U".
In addition, Norses hadn’t the "space" so they used a symbol to separate words. The symbol was a dot or two dots (like a colon) or four dots (placed as the vertex of a cross). It can mean that "U" is the initial of a word (or a name).
What do you think about?
there are 10 kinds of people. ones that understand binary and ones that don’t.
Well, I’m skeptical about both the SLA letter and the HC itself, so there’s that.
But regarded in isolation your idea seems interesting to me. Certainly as good a suggestion as many of the others we’ve seen offered over the years. There’s a clear resemblance between the HC symbol and the ones you have in mind here, and if Z was indeed the author of that card, the cipher angle is obviously of great interest.
Pretty interesting find, not the worst idea I have ever heard

Agreed that the symbol looks very much like a rune. That’s my best guess as to the inspiration for the symbol too.
I don’t think he put his initials in it or anything. I doubt he’d be that bold. It’s probably just has some special meaning to him that we’ll never understand.
Or "gibu auja" ("Good Luck"), which would be another taunt:
That’s pretty good and could see him doing that.
One strange (though likely meaningless) thing that I have noticed is that the construction crews in my neighborhood spray-paint these "z" symbols with dots, it looks just like the halloween card. Ill take a picture when the snow melts…
Until then I found some "similar" examples to what I am speaking about:
(I can’t find a Google image of the spray paint construction markings with the "z" and dots, but I found these)
Or "gibu auja" ("Good Luck"), which would be another taunt:
That’s pretty good and could see him doing that.
The thing with gibu auja is that Zodiac’s symbol is missing the lower half of X (gibo) and thus grammatically incorrect. Of course it could be that he just decided to ape his own version of the symbol.
I looked up different rune sayings/greetings/slogans and noticed that the way they have been formed would suggest that single runes can be combined and attached to eachother, and that they also do flip over horizontally depending on the surrounding runes. Thus the flipping of the "hook" from right side to the left side in the "laguz" rune.
Ha, in the bottom picture in my last post the "zodiac symbol" represents "unknown"
…kind of like signing the letters "unknown"
I know it’s just pure coincidence though.
