Expanding on Seagulls post. I think.
I think she and I were pretty much on the same wave-length.
I couldn’t help, but think of this when thinking of being gorged with salt beef…
Just had to get that water connection in there didn’t ya?
Always.
Food..and stuff. Z mentions chewing gums (pomphit into your face…plopp)..salt beef. Salt beef reminds me survival trips, eg for hunting or military. Not many places to buy salt beef in Vallejo, weren’t there? But I guess it rather is a dead end..I sometimes wonder if a poster with Z, mentioning those details, could remind e.g. a family member or acquaintance about his ID. Not many people would fulfill those criteria..
– not liking chewing gums (of course many)
– using ‘deep heat’
– hunting
– wearing perfectly clean boots
– dark blue windbreaker
– full, round face (Mageau)
– driving maroon/brown car
– reading SF chronicle (rather than Vallejo times)
– owning double sided fishing knives with wooden handle
– buying or using salt beef for survival/hunting
– 6”0-6’2” tall
– stocky built
– movie/theatre buff (many)
– sometimes wearing glasses (not so BRS as far as I know)
– frequenting diners
– connections to the Riverside area
– roundish ‘f’ handwriting, sometimes writing with felt pen
There possibly are not many people fulfilling only 90% of those criteria..I wonder if an advertisement, e.g. 70*300m on Golden Gate bridge would bring any results..
What I’d like to say is that there already is a complete profile of Z. The problem is that none of us knows such a person, but maybe some other people do..

Naval Rations

Reprinted from the 1971 Commissaryman 3&2 rate training manual
The first Navy ration law is found in a act of Congress passed in 1794, which provided for a daily fixed allowance of food items for each day of the week. A typical day’s ration was one pound of hard bread, one and one-half pounds of salt beef and one-half pint of rice. Included with this ration was a half-pint of distilled spirits or one-quart of beer.
Thought of this thread last night when watching a documentary on the Hawaiian Islands.
They talked about the large cattle ranch on the Big Island (Hawaii) and how they were one the main exporters of "Salt Beef".

It when on to mention the whaling industry in Maui and how a young sailor named "Herman Melville" would visit.
