| I just realized I forgot to credit you for the period 19 discovery. I think you and Jarlve discovered the same phenomenon independently. I’ll mention it in the next video. The period 19 repeating bigrams discovery really started a whole chain of events that led to this great success, so thank you very much!! The issue preventing a solve was the fact Z split it up into 3 sections. Starting the period 19 with the 1st symbol but only for the first 9 lines. Then starting again with the 1st symbol of the 10th line. Then not using the period 19 for the last two lines choosing to reverse some of the words instead. Tricky little demented bastard. EDIT: I wonder if he decided to do this on the fly. Maybe he noticed that when he started the first string of the period 19 with the 1st symbol of the 1st line he liked how it landed neatly on the last symbol the first 17 by 9 section. Maybe because of that he thought to start again with the 1st symbol of the 10th line and end neatly once again on the last symbol of the 2nd 17 by 9 section. At this point, maybe with only two lines remaining he changed to simply reversing the some of the words. This will be debated for years on how he did it. | |||||

| Mike, please leave an honest review on Amazon to offset the 5-star reviews there. I suspect they were all written by acquaintances of the author. I first encountered the author via his youtube video: He has a site for his book: His comment from a Zodiac facebook group where he posted the video: define answer. It’s a homophonic substitution cipher with a transposition in the middle where there are hinged trigrams. A good portion of the key and decryption are shown in the video but it is far more fun if you find the name(s) yourself versus being told it. Go to David Oranchak’s website and click on webtoy. Tell the program to turn the puzzle vertically (read from top to bottom) and enter in the key yourself. The I and T are interchangeable so it’s easiest if you don’t decrypt them. The whole thing is a mirrored pictogram of a Z. One name is in the left "open space" and the other is in the right "open space". If you aren’t sure, use the Z13 as a key confirmation. For example, the first three letters are AEN. the H is an (A) the V is an (E) HAVE. the last three letters are NAM. N=M, E=A, M=Y. HAVE MY NAME NOW THE KEY. it’s not a scramble of picking and choosing random letters. it’s a normal message He also has a longer video with more details: Reddit post: … rsion_lol/ I haven’t studied his solution. But it looks like many others. "More of the same." I.e., a series of steps that can squeeze out a message but doesn’t take into account that many other messages are equally likely to be produced. But I can’t say that with 100% certainty because I haven’t spent the time to analyze it. Been getting solution proposals from people almost every day since I started my youtube series. | |||||

| I really appreciate the ease and clarity of explanation that Dave Oranchak uses in his presentations, either alone or through the A to Z podcast. However, I think spending valuable time creating a video to explain to the handful of people in the entire world who still believe that the 408 cipher hasn’t been solved, is punching down. It’s akin to creating a video to prove that the earth is round to flat-earthers, or creating a video to prove to creationists that the world is older than 6,000 years. You will finish the video and these people will still retain the same beliefs. My guess is Graysmith, Starliper, Stewart and Sechrest wouldn’t budge a millimetre if you threw logic at them all day. I think Dave’s time would be better spent pushing the envelope and promoting his own ideas, as opposed to targeting the lowest hanging fruit of long discredited solutions. From this point of view I have not seen it yet. You make a very good point. You can’t convince someone who won’t hear or accept the facts. But there are not only these "deniers". I have been dealing with z340 and z408 for a very long time and have talked to many people about the topic. Again and again there were some who were skeptical that the solution of z408 is correct. But this scepticism was based on the fact that they did not know the elementary concepts of homophonic encryption. They did not doubt the solution out of defiance, but out of natural curiosity. Therefore, it is not a matter of convincing conspiracy theorists. Nor can that work. It’s much more about teaching basic knowledge. This could arouse the interest of many people. | Did you notice Tahoe how the woman stated that David Faraday was found in the Rambler. Pierre Bidou on no less than four occasions, in print and on video, stated David Faraday was discovered inside the vehicle. In the True Crime video with Aphrodite Jones (2010) Pierre Bidou twice mentions David Faraday being inside the car, at 11:17 and 11:45 into the video he states "The young man was still in the car" and "you see the male in the car still breathing." In the Benicia Herald zodiac-case/ article it states "Inside the car, the officers found a boy in the passenger’s seat who appeared as if “he was trying to get out” of the car. Bidou remembers seeing the shattered glass of the car window, pierced by a bullet. More poignantly, he also remembers that the boy was still breathing." Also on ‘Richard Gaikowski-The Case of the Zodiac Killer’ video we get a further example at 13:22 where Bidou says "The male was still halfway in the vehicle and he was showing signs of breathing." How many times can this be stated until it begs a question. | |||||

| Funnily enough I was just watching a Youtube video about this the other day. About what? That video doesn’t seem to be about Hewitt’s book. I didn’t watch it… Or were you just saying that you were watching a video about Zodiac in general? I don’t see the relevance in mentioning it, I guess. The video covers his first book in a series of 3 called Zodiac:Hunted, in which he covers the murders. Hewitt states why he decided to write three books as opposed to writing a single book with a specific POI. | |||||

| Some channel with 4 1/2 million subscribers posted a Zodiac video that has over 2.6 million views in 2 weeks! Good publicity to the case, but the guys in the video are both hipster douchebags. Typical young people who swear because it makes them cool. BUT, it’s a decent video. They did their research and got the facts right. Not hard to do. Hopefully this will attract more people to the case, but not the people who mention Ted Cruz in the video‘s comment section. EDIT: Oops, sorry this was already mentioned by Paul_Averly | |||||

| Holmes that video is by member here, PaulAverly. I really like the video, not just as a Ross video, but as a Zodiac video. However, I do think PaulAverly made a few assumptions about Ross. I don’t know that we have any proof that Cheri & Ross both were at the wedding together, although it’s very possible,and pretty obvious they likely knew each other. | |||||

| Did you make that video Ukspy? I really disagree with some of these comparisons, especially that "n", I think that is so WAAY off. Also the video‘s way of transposing Ross’ characters onto Zodiac’s, either by digitally "retracing" them or just digitally coloring in the pixels to red, alters the construction of the characters by removing the pen strokes, so it actually hurts the comparison. BUT I really do like the idea of laying out the comparisons in a video like this, it makes it very easy to follow what is harder to do on this thread, and especially just by description. That’s what’s great about opinions, they don’t always match. I think the n is right on. This video was made by member, Paul_Averly But it’s not actually "right on". That is only a portion of the "n"; there is a fold line or some kind of imperfection running through it, but it’s not where the "n" began. | |||||
