Funny–I came across this guy the other day too, but I don’t think it’s him. He just doesn’t look like the John Swindle in the paper, to me.

I found this article about a possible suspect in the Swindle’s murders. I’m pretty sure this has been discussed before at another forum, it’s been a while though.

Thanks for posting the article Seagull. I’ll tell ya…it’s damn interesting. Sniper running loose in Mission Beach.

Killing himself makes me wonder if there was more to his past criminal behavior, ya know?

Tahoe found a record online that seems to support the idea that the sniper was named William D Chandler. So I went to Ancestry and was able to find records in that name that are inline with the events of the Sept. 29, 1966 incident.

I also found a birth record that has the same birth date that is on the death records but the mother’s maiden name is different.

Thanks Seagull! I wasn’t sure what the D. stood for. Do you suppose the newspapers could be that wrong? Mmmm, probably, yah. lol

Thanks for clearing it up. "Sandy" from the Domingos/Edwards case, had a possible last name of Coffman, I noticed this guy’s mother’s maiden name was Coffman, probably a coincidence. Wish these newspapers made sure their info was correct

The newspaper said the name was Wayne David. Chandler’s middle name was Dwayne. I suppose that could have been the source of the screw-up in a dyslexic sort of way.

I’m looking for anything I can find on these murders and found this article. I swear the way it is worded it sounds like something Zodiac might have said!

And I mis-labeled the article it should read Feb. 10, 1964

Indeed it is. Hmm.

I wonder who this kid was and what happened to him. Did he move to Riverside, for instance, followed by the Bay Area?

Looks like Trudeau had a few kids, one as early as 1967..if I’m not mistaken. VA and FL ties.

I could not find any California addresses for Trudeau either, I found Florida and Georgia addresses.

I did find yet another suspect!

Almost all these articles are saying that both Johnny and Joyce were 19 years old and that is not true. Johnny was a year and a half older than Joyce. Here is a picture of their headstone, I suspect that the families of these two got the dates right. From Find a Grave.

In case you’re interested, I recently wrote a post about the Swindles:

http://zodiacrevisited.com/a-san-diego- … onnection/

To summarize, I found a newspaper article in which San Diego police disclosed that they believed the killer stole Johnny Ray’s watch in addition to his wallet. This point is significant because: (a) chronologically, San Diego is immediately before Riverside, (b) Johnny Ray spent much of the last day of his life painting an apartment for his landlady, and (c) of course, investigators found the timex watch with paint on it at the scene of Cheri Jo Bates’s murder. I’m seriously wondering if the watch may be Johnny Ray’s watch…
