Just thinking out loud but I wonder is their was an article about Zodiac on December 5th, maybe in the Sacramento bee ? I’m sure that it has something to do with December 5th. Any known attempted attacks on that date ?

I’ve checked the Sacramento Bee for any articles that had to do with Zodiac. There was not an article on Dec. 5th. There was an article on Nov. 28th which is the last article related to Zodiac prior to Dec. 5th. It’s about a memorial concert planned for Cecelia Shepard to raise money to purchase a grand piano for Pacific Union College in her name. There is such a piano at PUC. The concert was to be held in San Francisco.

After that article the next one is Dec. 7th.

A well-known amulet among Catholic Christians is the Saint Benedict medal which includes the Vade Retro Satana formula to ward off Satan. This medal has been in use at least since the 1700s, and in 1742 it received the approval of Pope Benedict XIV. It later became part of the Roman Catholic ritual.

Similar structure to the December 16th Fairfield letter a few days later. Trouble is it’s not very magic.

I’ve found two instances of a Magic Amulet that appeared in newspapers in the 1950s.

The first is a Sunday comic strip that ran 1931 to 1958 named "Tiny Tim", drawn and written by Stanley Link. A magic amulet is a running theme throughout the comic strip’s run. You can find more info about the comic strip by Googling. This might be of interest if you believe that comics influenced Zodiac, such as the Death Wheel comic that Tahoe found.

The second instance is a play titled "The Magic Amulet" by Roy King. This play seems to have only been produced in the Los Angeles area. It was copyrighted in 1953 and began performances in 1954. It ran until the summer of 1956. Considering the new information about the cabbie who was killed in Oceanside in 1962, this also might point to Zodiac being from Southern California.

This article explains the plot of the play.

Cheers Seagull, I particularly like the theatre link. The notion of the killer responding to newspaper articles, particularly in the run up to his mailing a communication, is a proven one.

Agreed, Nice find Seagull and showing more southern Ca connections. I don’t think Zodiac lied about there being a lot more victims down there, that LE have found only the easy ones. What makes it difficult to find which are his victims ,is he uses different weapons. That is all a part of his catch me if you can game.

The Celebrity Card has clues to Ocean Beach Ca.(San Diego County) the Swindle’s case. Making that card a believable communication from Zodiac.
