Based on a very careful re-typing, in a mono-spaced font just like a typewriter, as exactly as I could match the original, I came up with this:

I believe the spacing and layout is the exact same as the original. I checked it over twice.

What’s anybody’s take on the SACRAMENTO 9-68? Could that be a month/year? Maybe the Widow’s Husband may have died then,or they pulled an FBI File from then?

A couple names that I had in mind were ZAMLICH or ROGERS.

ROBERT ZAMLICH & ALVIN CHARLES ROGERS were both murdered, shot to death in separate incidents around May,1969 in or close to the San Jose area. Zamlich was married to a woman named Sharon. She was visiting San Fran, when her Husband was murdered. Not sure if Rogers was married or not, still checking for San Jose murders of men not too far in advance of this letter

"Zodiac" 10 Are Marked For Murder

SAN JOSE (AP)- The Highway Patrol station here reports receiving a telephone call from a man identifying himself as "Zodiac" and threatening to kill five patrolmen and a family of five by Monday.

Sgt. Robert Rengstorif said he took the call at 10:10 p.m. Friday from a man who told dispatcher Shirley Searcy he was "the Zodiac" and wanted to speak to the man in charge.

Rengstorif quoted the man as saying:
"I am going to kill five of you officers and a family of five between now and Monday."

The patrolman said the call was not recorded and there is no way of knowing who it came from.

A killer who calls himself Zodiac first struck a year ago in Vallejo and has killed a total of five persons.

His last known communication was a month ago in two letters addressed to the San Francisco Chronicle.

WOW, great find. This coincides with the ‘STATE IS IN TROUBLE’ letter, sent a few days before this call was made…wow.Seems the caller and or letter writer, were one and the same. That letter mentions, COPS on the victim list,but states that only one will be killed in San Jose

Wasn’t this guy found? Some transient guy…something to do with freeways. My mind is still foggy this morning.

The cop that got the call is still alive,and relatively young. His last name is actually Robert Rengstorff. Somebody should check in with him

I did post this at Tom’s back on Aug. 1, 2009 and I think that it was later posted at Morf’s old forum. It’s hard to find things on that old forum so I reposted it here from Tom’s.

Thanks Seagull, but I am thinking about something else. Some guy was hitchhiking or something…said he’d kill highway patrol or something?? Something happening on freeways…he wrote letters…got picked up by the cops, but they said he wasn’t Zodiac. Ugh…so many things and crazy people!!

Sorry Ak I had a brain fart, the phone call seagull mentioned is likely connected to the ‘State Is In Trouble’ letter

The only connection I was thinking was San Jose. Two things Zodiac related that happened within a month of each other involving San Jose.

Pittsburg Phil, Manalli did not have a connection to San Jose as far as I remember. He did live in San Leandro when he first moved to California in the early ’60’s and he worked at San Quentin Prison. Those are the only "San’s" I can think of right now and there are plenty of those here in California!

Dan until we have the rest of the message and the rest of the code I don’t think we can make any serious reliable attempt to solve a fragment of it.

Right I understand that both involved San Jose but one involves a threat to a widow in San Jose and the other was just a phone call to the Highway Patrol in San Jose? I would agree with Morf that the phone call to the Highway Patrol in San Jose threatening police would be more likely to involve a connection to the Fairfield unconfirmed letters that also threatened police..

Looks like this guy had it in for San Jose cops…or any cops. This officer was killed in August of 1970…"he just wanted to kill pigs".
