Not much to catch up on I don’t think. I would say that the only way to verify the identity of the Pigeon kid is to contact people who lived in that neighborhood, maybe the newspaper that ran the article or Albany PD.

Just got an email back from a relative of John Verga after a few months, and this person says that he is almost positive that the Verga family still lived at that Albany address in 1947, but it was so long ago that he isn’t 100% sure. I just wrote back and mentioned the newspaper article so we’ll see if he can shed any light on it.

Keating age 60. The 60 year old Keating is too young to have gotten the threat, but if he is a Junior, and his Dad got the threat, this would seem to be a really big coincidence.

The Keating related to Leo is related to a Dorothy D. Keating age 100, & a Hilda M. Keating age 91.

BINGO! His Father WAS William J. Keating! Here’s 1970 Vallejo Directory listing. Question is, is this the same William J. Keating that got the threat from the Pigeon Kid in Albany? If it is, this would be a really huge coincidence. Keating gets a letter from somebody calling themselves ‘red phantom’, and then a Relative of his(Darlene)is killed by Zodiac, who also calls himself Red Phantom.

If John Verga attended Albany H.S., which is very likely, then he had a classmate named Paul Avery. And the girls P.E. teacher was Pauline Toschi. More coincidental stuff to throw on the pile.

Yes James Owen witness to LHR worked there and a few others have theories that Zodiac possibly work there.

The attorney had the middle initial of E., while the one we are looking for had the middle initial of C. It’s damn near impossible to find anything on Verga, even with his DOB. Must be a hermit.

His sister Charlene is married to a Henry "Hank" R Tigri. Pretty sure they now live in Lafayette, CA.

Halfway down you will see her name as a new employee and mentions she is a bride of 5 months, so her and Henry must have married in late 1953, when she would have been 20 years old. Maybe we can find out if she has children or grandchildren that we can reach out to and ask about John. Not sure why, but I have a feeling he was Pigeon Boy.

Yeah, weird coincidence with Fromme’s attorney having the same name only with a slightly different spelling… The John Verga we are looking for is almost impossible to find online. I found a girl with the same name as his grand daughter, but their ages don’t match up. I’m about to throw in the towel on looking for this guy. Can’t even find a DOB or where he went to High School.

John Verga’s mother had the name Nellan Dorothea Lopez when she died Sept 6 2001. Her obit ran in the San Jose newspaper Sept. 9,10,11, 2001. I’m not finding her obit online. Perhaps you can contact the library in San Jose and ask them to send you the obit. This should help you narrow down where John might be as obits usually list survivors and those that predeceased.

Nellan is a very unusual first name. I was able to figure out what happened to her just using her first name at Ancestry. John’s father died in 1941.
