John Verga’s mother had the name Nellan Dorothea Lopez when she died Sept 6 2001. Her obit ran in the San Jose newspaper Sept. 9,10,11, 2001. I’m not finding her obit online. Perhaps you can contact the library in San Jose and ask them to send you the obit. This should help you narrow down where John might be as obits usually list survivors and those that predeceased.

Nellan is a very unusual first name. I was able to figure out what happened to her just using her first name at Ancestry. John’s father died in 1941.

Deb, would you take a stab at finding out what relation Leo has to William J Keating?

I’m not having much luck seeing how Wm. J Keating is related to Leo Seunnen. I did find out though that the Wm. J Keating in the Albany area was married to Hazel and was a florist. This is from the 1941 Oakland Polks Directory page 514

Found the birth records of all children in CA with last name Verga with a mother with nee name Raffanti.

There were 3 children, 2 of them with same names as in the 1940 United States Federal Census I posted previously today.
But the 3rd child, a male, is only listed with his last name "Verga" and his DOB is 30 Nov 1938 (and not 1 Sep 1940 as the John C Verga in my previous now corrected post).
So the John C Verga born 1940 is the wrong guy.
And the John Verga DOB Nov 30, 1938 seem to fit the 9 year old who signed his letter "Red Phantom":

For what it’s worth, John Verga was not listed in Vallejo 1969, or Riverside 1966, in fact, there were no people with that last name listed there.

There was a John C. Verga Born in 1961(his Son?) who has lived in Goleta & Santa Barbara.

To be honest, I’m not so sure that John Verga is the boy who wrote the letter. He was living on Evelyn in Albany in the 1940 census and would have been the right age to have written that letter in 1947. The thing that makes me think he’s not the right boy though, is that his father died in 1941 and it’s doubtful to me that the mother and three children would have stayed in Albany. The families of both Charles (Carlo) Verga and Nellan (Raffanti) Verga lived in San Francisco and San Mateo County. It’s more likely, IMO, that Nellan took the three young children back across the bay to live with family who would be able to help support them and they would not still be living in the East Bay.

The available sources for figuring that out, phone books, city directories and such for 1946, 1947 and 1948 are just not online and the 1950 census isn’t available yet.

You are correct, The attorney is John Edward Virga, he was Squeaky Fromme’s attorney at her assassination attempt trial. There is no attorney with the name John Verga, regardless of middle name.

John C. Verga born 1938 is the one that lived a couple houses down from the Keating residence. In 1940 anyways, Who knows, he may have moved before the Pigeon Boy incident.

I found a website months ago that listed John as a student at Albany High School, but now I can’t seem to find it. If we can find out he did go to school there, that still doesn’t prove his family lived on Evelyn in 1947.

Foreigner, can you provide a link to where you found Verga’s fathers date of death being in 1941? I have not been able to find that information.
