Another sad anniversary, 44 years today since a maniac coward known as Zodiac attacked at Lake Berryessa in Napa. Take a second to remember Cecelia Shepard.

Today, and almost everyday. :(

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

I ponder sometimes about the nature of our collective ‘interest’ in regards this and other murder cases. I know we don’t see it as unusual or morbid but I’m sure others who don’t share such interests might. Others still view us as interfering hobbyists. I’m really just espousing about these perceived aspects to help highlight something good.

Morf embodies it in creating this post and T reflects on it in her post.

This particular crime happened 4 years and 13 days before I was born. In a country I’ve never been to. Because of my interest in this case however, when I hear Cecelia’s name mentioned I not only know who she was but I can see her pictures in my mind and hear her words. A girl I’ve never even met who sadly passed away 44 years ago and half a world away yet I can instantly recall her to memory as if I did know her and had only seen her yesterday.

That’s the good thing, the nice thing. We keep their memories alive in our own memories whether we realise it or not.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

Well said, it would be a nice thought to find a resolution before we reach 45 years.

If I had a relative that was killed like the Zodiac victims were, I would work tirelessly on forums like this trying to solve their murder. While the cases simply is fascinating, interesting, and addicting, the bottom line is, I want to see it solved so those Victims get justice. The Victims were all pretty young, and had their whole lives ahead of them. I wrote a bit about this on my blog at http://www.zodiackillersite.blogspot.com , in which I closed it with-

"44 years later, the case remains unsolved, and as cold as ever. Zodiac, if he alive today, may take a moment today to reflect on his attack, there is no doubt that surviving witness Bryan Hartnell, as well as Cecelia’s Family will do the same. My hope is that by the 45th anniversary, police can attach a name to the serial killer known as ‘Zodiac’"

Ricardo and I went there , the water was so low it was hard to find the exact spot at first. I have a tree stump that helps me find the correct area. It could have been the tree that gave Bryan and Cecilia some shade that warm day.
Not the tree that Zodiac used to put on his costume, that one was south west of the shade tree. There were 4 other people who showed up after we were there, 2 of them don’t have computers, they lived in the Napa area in 1969. Ken Narlow was a good friend of theirs, they had wine with him just one week before Ken passed away. I was very surprised to learn that Ken’s favorite suspect was Rick Marshall. We introduced ourselves and met for dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant down town Napa. After being asked to leave by one of the park rangers again! I noticed the same white car as I had seen from last yr, at the area next to where we were. Perhaps it is one of the Z people who think they have found the correct spot ?

Before the others showed up, we noticed just how quite it was yesterday, not a sound it was very still.

Thank you for reporting in on your LB Day. And great that you run into other people interested in the Z case. Interesting that Ken Narlow thought the Z was Rick Marshall. And that white car that was there again, hope they weren’t watching you!
Take any pictures?
Thanks, Zam*
