Wondering if someone could ask the appropriate persons from LE/Riverside Press if there are any letters/correspondence that have not been released to the public. If so, why not? Also wondering if all evidence was retested periodically.

If there was no record of fingerprints when this crime happened, there could be now. The culprit may not have had a record then but could have been arrested or fingerprinted for something else such as employment later on.

The fingerprinting system was not automated back then. The advancements in forensics since Cheri’s murder would justify any expense involved if it would solve this crime.

Good points, cap! I know I’d give my eye teeth (which are false) to get a peek into Cheri’s Diary. But, knowing RPD, I suspect my dentures are safe.

There were prints lifted from her car that are believed to be from Cheri Jo’s killer also a palm print I believe. I will ask if there were any letters that were thought to be a hoax by LE that perhaps could have been from Zodiac. I know that the communications from someone claiming to be Zodiac to the Pittsburg Ca PD in the late 80’s to mid 90’s, were thought to be a hoax. Even one phone call was made to PPD.
But then what would PPD know about what Zodiac would or would not do anyway ?

My POI’s fiancee lived there before their marriage in Sept 1966. Are the houses and their properties readily visible to each other (in a manner of speaking)?

My POI’s fiancee lived there before their marriage in Sept 1966. Are the houses and their properties readily visible to each other (in a manner of speaking)?

Thanks, UKS! Evidently my POI would have been afforded lots of opportunities to see Cheri’s VW, and even herself, when visiting his fiancee. Also, since the three of them attended Ramona High the same year (when Cheri was a freshman) they might even have talked to each other.

Whoever was the perpetrator of the Cheri Jo Bates murder lost his TIMEX Marlin bought at a PX and routed through Salt Lake City, Utah, was there DNA on the watch that can be retrieved with the new technology? Arthur Leigh Allen’s Mom bought him a new watch a Zodiac Sea Wolf, on Christmas 1966 or 1967, did anyone ever ask Allen what happened to his other watch? The perp of the Cheri Jo Bates murder also had the Wing Walker boots size 10, if you go by how many pairs that PX’s sold in the 2 years before Halloween 1966 you get something like 100,000 pairs, if you narrow it down to Size 10 (a common Men’s size) maybe you narrow it down to 20,000 pairs, you needed a Military ID to buy them, how many people bought the size 10 Wing Walker boots and the TIMEX Marlin, water resistant and also a diving watch like the Zodiac Sea Wolf which was a step up. Imagine if the officers when talking to Arthur Leigh Allen at work about his Zodiac watch had asked him "What happened to your Timex?" Even though Timex at the time was synonymous with watch, someone might say "Nice Timex" like Band Aid became synonymous with a Bandage. The Cheri Jo Bates murder started with the disabling of her VW Bug, the first lover’s lane killing they were in a Corvair, like the Bug a rear-engine car, and at Lake Berryessa they were in a Karman Ghia another rear-engine car, there was also some evidence of a suspect having the keys to a Brown Corvair that sat at a Service Station near the first Northern California killings, was the Zodiac attracted to or obsessed by rear engine cars, or was he knowledgeable about them, thus disabling Cheri Jo Bates Bug, Arthur Leigh Allen was portrayed as driving a Karman Ghia in the Zodiac film.

I read the online Press-Enterprise yesterday and today but saw no mention of Cheri Jo. I hope I just missed it, because I can’t imagine the P-E forgetting her murder.

Cheri Jo’s killer did not have Wing Walker boots.

If you read the DOJ report you can see the differences between the two shoe prints that were found at CJB’s crime scene and the LB crime scene.

The treads on the two shoes were different with the print found at CJB’s scene belonging to a military dress shoe not a Wing Walker boot. There is more discussion of the shoe prints found at LB on pages 16 and 20 of the DOJ report.

Ty seagull…..i just want rpd to dna test whats left and i want the petp convicted….if this is solved we might be able to end all speculation once a for all if z was responsible for cjb..of course this stuff was probably surplused early-on so the speculation will continue….size 8 or 10..we are talking a smaller dude here…
