Was the identity of the ‘Anonymous tip’ ever discovered? The anonymous tipster that supposedly contacted Avery to inform him that Zodiac was responsible for slaughtering CJB in Riverside?
"So it’s sorta social. Demented and sad, but social, right?" Judd Nelson.
You mean Phil Sins? I think morf spoke to him; he’s legit.

I have no idea of the name, I didn’t know anyone had been brought to light as the person who gave Avery the Tip. Obviously, you know the first question I am going to ask now lol. How and why could he claim to know that Zodiac was responsible for CJB?

Phil didn’t claim to know that Zodiac was responsible for Cheri’s murder, Chappie – all he did was highlight the taunting letters linked to her slaying, comment on how eerily reminiscent of Zodiac’s he thought they seemed, and suggest that Avery take a closer look.
There’s a bit more about him here…

… and the link below contains the findings morf gleaned from interviewing him.

Ooooook…
So it was based on the letters and similarities in the writing? I knw Sherwood Morril declared the desk top carvings to be the handwriting of the Zodiac, but did he have Sherwood confirm his expert opinion of the Riverside letters before he printed his Zodiac-Riverside Connection article in the Chronicle?

^^I think the answer to your question is yes…but I’ll let Nacht chime in.
While I think it’s good it became public knowledge, I have to wonder if Paul was giving himself a bigger pat on the back than he deserved. The RPD and Napa had long before communicated the similarites with their cases. I believe SF was involved as well.

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if the LE agencies had a suspicion that the Riverside – Zodiac murders were connected but kept it quiet. You know what Law Enforcements reaction to Serial Killers are once they strt connecting several bodies to one perpetrator, its "Do not release this or make it public, people will panic", which always makes my blood boil because they are choosing to make their job easier than alert the public that there’s a nutcase in their town/city murdering anything that moves!
But T, if what you just said is actually correct, that Riverside PD & Napa were sharing info and realized that they each had one homicide case in their jurisdiction that were possibly liked to the others Homicide case, then why would they seem to dismiss this out of hand as soon as it becomes public knowledge?

There are copies of their letters to each other long before Paul became involved. I don’t know if they have been transfered here yet from the old site.
In answer to your question: "…then why would they seem to dismiss this out of hand as soon as it becomes public knowlege?"….I would say they felt they already thought they had their answer….they were not the same guy. They had already done their research. I know thoughts changed with some after Morrill, etc.
I would have loved Riverside PD to have responded to Zodiac’s "I must give them credit f stumbling across my Riverside activity" claim by doing what the Bay Area cops did & wrote back to this brag in the Chronicle by stating "We cannot attribute this Riverside Homicide to the Zodiac Killer because there simply isn’t any evidence at all to suggest he was even in Riversie, let alone Cheri’s murderer. No, sorry, but unles Zodiac sends us details that only the killer could know, as he has done in response to Vallejo cops previous, we cannot, and will not, take that claim serious."
My money would have been on Z not being able to supply any of the specific’s of Cheri’s murder as h could with LHR.

Then they could publish in th Chronicle…. RPD 1 – ZODIAC 0. Lol.
