I have an idea about what "r h" might mean. If Z ends up being Ross Sullivan it is possible he used the runic symbol for ‘S’ that just so happens to look like a ‘h’. Might be a long shot…

Morf and I looked at RH’s from more of the years Cheri attended as well. And eventually the women too.

Glad to hear that since the desk poem writer was a woman. I try really, really hard not to keep saying that. I would bet my house on it but I will stop saying it…….. NOW.

Why do you believe it may have been a woman who had written the poem?

My money is with Sherwood Morrill, he said Zodiac wrote that Desktop poem, and that means it is a guy.

Not that I don’t respect Morrill and his profession, but he also stated the ’78 letter was authentic.

Well we don’t judge a whole career by one slip up do we? We all make mistakes. I know, I made one once 14 years ago. :)

Actually he was right, the 78 letter WAS the writing of Zodiac, only as later analysis showed it was probably TOO perfect, and was probably traced. But it was Z writing. The difference of opinion was that postal inspector Shimoda said it matched too perfectly and was likely traced, thus it could have been someone other than Zodiac who did it. Unless Z traced himself.

Trav did a very good analysis on the desk top poem, showing many, many strong matches to later Zodiac writing. Convinced me it was very likely Zodiac who did it.

I won’t go into details here, QT, but it’s always been my very strong opinion that the desk poem was written by a female referring to herself in the 3rd person and musing about suicide or self-mutilation by cutting. Sherwood Morrill obviously disagrees with me since his opinion was that Zodiac wrote it. Mike Kelleher and probably most folks in this forum also disagree with me. It really wasn’t the right place to express my opinion about it and I apologize for that. Think it’s time for me to take a hiatus from posting for awhile…

Entropy look at the work of Trav here – viewtopic.php?f=80&t=397

When you can, take the time to study what he shows there. I respect your opinion so I would be curious if you change your mind and are inclined to consider more seriously that the desktop writer later wrote the "Bates has to die" envelopes and the Zodiac letters.

Also the poem uses IIRC words like "her" and "she" which is not consistent with a self cutting female writing the poem. But look at the work of Trav.

ENTROPY…..No need to take a hiatus! Many agree with you, including myself. And we all insert comments out of place sometimes. :)

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

Well I got no problem with thinking that it is..

To me, it’s painfully obvious who wrote the 78 letter, and it ain’t Zodiac

Well, in fact there are at least three 1978 letters to be considered:

”Dear Editor This is the Zodiac speaking I am back with you. Tell herb caen I am here, I have always been here. That city pig toschi is good but I am bu (crossed out) smarter and better he will get tired then leave me alone. I am waiting for a good movie about me. who will play me. I am now in control of all things. Yours truly: (Zodiac faded cross symbol) – guess / SFPD -0′

If authentic, it very well may (or may not) be from Zodiac

”Dear Channel Nine. This is the Zodiac speaking. You people in LA are in for a treat. In the next three weeks you are finally gona (sic!) have something good to report. I have decided to begin killing again – PLEASE hold the applause. Nothing is going to happen until I do. You people just wont let me have it any other way. I plan to kill five people over the next three weeks (I) Chief piggy Darrel Gates (2) Ex Chief piggy Ed Davis (3) Pat Boone – his theocratic crap is a obscenity to the rest of the world! (4) Also Eldrige (sic!) Cleaver – the niggers gotta get their 20% quota – after all. And Susan Atkins – The Judas of the Manson Family. Shes gona (sic!) get hers now. Hey – – – you actors – this is your lucky Break. Remember – whoever plays me has his work cut out for him. See you in the News! (Zodiac faded cross symbol)

If authentic, it very well may (or may not) be from Zodiac, too.

"I am the ZODIAC and I am in control of all things. I am going to tell you a secret. I like friction tape. I like to have it around in case I need to truss someone up in a hurry….I have my real name on a small metallic tape. You see, while you have it in your possession, I want you to know it belongs to me and you think I may have left it accidentally. I am athletic. It could be swim fins, or a piece of scuba gear. But maybe you play chess with me. I have several cheap sets in closets all over. I have my name on the bottom of the lid with the scotch tape….My tape is waiting for me all over California. Do you know me? I am the ZODIAC and I am in control."

And so may this one might or might not be..

In all three letters, after all, Zodiac is mentioned as being its author. So I must assume that you consider at least one of those three letters to be a forgery? Wasn’t Ross Sullivan still alive in 1978?

The first letter shows a very typical Z handwriting and so does the third one. Only the second letter certainly has a strange handwriting, however complies to the ‘Hello it’s me’ letter of 1981. Similarities do exist, e.g. regarding the ‘A’ of ‘ATKIN’ on the envelope.

I cannot proove any of those being real or fake, but I am curious if you know someone who had written (one of) this letters?
