I think we can rule out a certain age for Z and/or the Author of the Bates stuff. I think it’s highly unlikely that he was under age 18 at the time of Cheri’s murder,I can’t see many reasons why a sub 18 year old person would be in the RCC library ever,so I think the author was likely a student, teacher, or RCC Staff member. This really does not help much, but I think we can safely rule out somebody younger than Cheri

Agreed.

I’ve speculated before that if Z killed Bates, he was most likely around her age, but probably slightly older.

A possible clue to Z’s age is his use of the terms "kids", "boy" and "girl" to describe certain victims. On the face of it this indicates someone who was older than the victims – but how much older is another question.

Just remembered (but I could misremember) that there is something about the Confession in the FBI files: Some mention of a watermark (and possibly also a confirmation that it was teletype paper).

You can say a lot about Graysmith but I don’t see any obvious reason why he would take liberties with this teletype business (unless ALA was somehow a likely user of teletype paper :) ), so I’d be inclined to think he actually learned this from legitimate research.

Or that too was a ruse. Probably not, but who knows with this case. Could have been a friends younger brother who followed her there…some guys know lots about cars at a young age. Wonder if any suspects owned a VW bug. –sorry, off subject.

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

Oh, yes – absolutely. But then he wasn’t Z, for my money.

Bates’ killer could have been younger than her. But if Zodiac was Bates’ killer, my bet is that he was older.

Why yes, one of the suspects did own a VW Bug. He was also born in 1941.

Any others who weren’t determined not to be her killer…

You’re right, RPD determined he didn’t kill her. They also determined Bob B DID.

They thought "Bob" did, but determined he didn’t. ;)

I’m not up with who owned the VW Paul..? Initials? But the VW a young persons car or second family car. One of my first guesses was the culprit drove or owned or knew of VW’s as they are different, the motors in your boot.. Storage under the hood… And you could open the " boot" if you did not re lock it..which nobody did because there was nothing to steal in there.. Lots of VW missing and killed persons in that era.. Of course lots of VW..

Wasn’t it determined that Ross Sullivan drove a VW Bug when he lived in Riverside?

Didn’t Gerald Katz state that?

There is more than one way to lose your life to a killer

I think so. I know I read it somewhere on the Ross thread.

I think the VW bug info comes from this post:

Another hint regarding the age of Z:

viewtopic.php?f=103&t=200

On page 3 of the report it says that the caller (Z) had a ‘youthful sounding voice, possibly in his early twenties‘.
