Great work Trav, and as luck(or not luck  ) would have it, the full first, middle, and last name of my POI from Riverside that graduated with Cheri Jo Bates, and then lived in Vallejo, fits well into that with spaces included:

** * *******
actually, 18 spaces,but pretty close

Combined with the my-name is cipher (13) this could mean that his middle name is 7 letters long…such as richard.

Terminal thoughts on the # of letters found in the "Confession" signature: I suspect Z–who had a distorted sense of humor–would take great pleasure in supplying the exact number of letters (plus blank spaces) that would constitute his complete–including middle, if any–name. IMHO, there is a probability his name contains seventeen/eighteen letters.

Looks like if anything regarding the 1st name,it’s 6 letters long.(assuming slots 1 & 8 would be spaces in between words).

If we assume for a second that this is correct, and the RH initials really belonged to the author, then the name ROBERT looks good as a possibility

Will anyone buy a first name consisting of seven letters; a middle one of six; and a last of four?

Seems to me it could be any combination of approximately 19, 18,17 letters which may or may not contain a middle name. Could be a zillion names…although I could be exaggerating a bit. :P

Or it could be none of those. It might have been typed at the bottom like that to mimic a signature line, like on a standard contract, with no intention of divulging the length of a name.

Exactly. Giant grasping at straws with this one, imo.

Definitely a possibility that this is a worthless clue,on the other hand, I could see somebody thinking they were smarter than police, and being bold enough to leave the exact amount of spaces as there was letters in his name

Something I had never realized before:

In his confession letter, Z – assuming he killed her – calls Cheri Jo Bates ‘Miss Bates‘.

He doesn’t call her ‘girl’ or ‘woman’ (it had been considered that the killer sort of had known the Bates family before the murder). But he also doesn’t call her ‘Cheri’ or ‘Cheri Jo Bates’ like a classmate would actually do. ‘Miss Bates’ is how he calls her..as if he was a teacher of her? Or, if not, with whom had CJB contact so she would have been called ‘Miss Bates’?
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Zodiac_Killer_letters

Also he mentioned that he waited for ‘her’, it obviously was not irrelevant which girl he killed but did he obviously not only select, but even wait for her – CJB and no one else – to come out of the library.

‘Keep your sisters, daughters and wives’…is it possible that CJB was the sister of Michael and that her killer had known him? ‘Making her pay for the brush offs that she had given me during the years prior’?

Man, if you ask me this guy was way closer to CJB than most of us believe..is Michael somewhere in the yearbooks, too? He was at the Navy during her murder (boots).
