I tried to clue in RPD years ago, Morf, and got nowhere. I more than suspect the authorities have judged us, one and all, as kooks. IF there are LE people still interested in solving the Zodiac murders, they probably check out the Internet’s Z sites. If any of us have info that appears viable, they might then contact us. Speaking for myself, I haven’t spent a lot of time on the Bates case in order to waste the authorities’ time.

That’s okay, I reached out by phone and left 2 separate messages, with 2 different people at South Lake Tahoe PD to pass along the info that Donna Lass was proven to have a Relative living in Vallejo during the Z murders, and after 2 weeks, still no response. That my Friends is why cases like Cheri’s and Donna’s are unsolved after 40+ years, failure to do the simplest of things such as followup on a tip, how long would it take? 5 minutes? :x

I guess the thing wih that though morf is MAYBE they already knew that info. (that’s a big maybe) And it could also be MAYBE they did follow up, but they just didn’t feed they needed to call you and tell you what they did..or didn’t do.

When I contacted the SLTPD about that "chat" info, they got back to me a couple times, but only because I had new info…but they certainly didn’t tell me the outcome.

My point is to all who contact LE…don’t think because they aren’t discussing the case with you, they haven’t taken your information into consideration!

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

Problem is Tahoe, I didn’t give them any details about the information I wanted to give them.

morf; so the gendarmes dismissed you out of hand. Why am I not surprised? Well, hell. If not the cops, there’s maybe the press. I doubt you and I are the only ones LE has shot down; I suspect a buncha folks share our tale of woe. So, how about buttonholing a sympathetic reporter, and weep on his/her shoulder? I doubt the general public has any idea how LE has repeatedly bumbled the Zodiac investigation beginning, first and foremost, with the Bates case. Be kinda refreshing to air their dirty laundry!

I would say if a case hasn’t been solved in 40 plus years, it’s time for Law Enforcement to reveal some of the evidence they have been keeping back, in the
hopes that someone would come forward, before everyone related to the case is dead.

Here’s my approach: First, include/eliminate Cheri Bates’ killer as Zodiac. Is there a suspect who:
1. Is a male Caucasian with brown hair?
2. Once attended Ramona High school?
3. Joined the service, particularly the Navy?
4. Attended Riverside City College at the same time as Cheri?
5. Has the initals, RH?
6. Later (say, in 1968-9) moved to the Bay area?
For the benefit of Law Enforcement, Morf knows of one such individual; so do I. And, of course, there may be more. I can’t speak for Morf, but I am willing to forward what info I have to authorities should they so request.

You should forward the info to police, but who knows if any attention will be paid to it

Who is the suspect ?

I’ve had more success in speaking directly to LE Dept’s. than writing to them. That’s not to say I’ve had any real success by speaking to them. I think at times I’ve caught some on slow days where they would speak to anyone. Best I’ve ever received, is that they’ve taken down the info I shared and they will look into it, and get back to me, no one has ever gotten back to me. And I don’t blame them, what would they say? I’m convinced in my mind anyway, that through all this research that has been done we have Z ID’d. One of us, maybe many, have hit on Z, we just don’t know it, and certainly without LE confirmation just about makes it impossible for us to know for sure. I’m still confident that one night the evening news will come on and say "there’s been a major development in a Bay Area Cold Case".

Within the past year, I’ve written two letters to the Riverside Police Department re Cheri Jo, and received no reply. In the second letter I deliberately made no mention of Zodiac, knowing their aversion to him as a suspect.
I agree that one of us, perhaps more, have clues that could expose Zodiac should LE take us seriously. I suspect, however, they consider us nuts. Which is unfortunate because I’ve encountered several of our number who are highly intelligent, and have done serious research.
Come on, LE! You haven’t got anywhere with the Zodiac case! Dump your files, and let us have a look at them….
