Palm print and no fingerprints is certainly consistent with other Z letters.

No fingerprints is interesting. Normally, you’d expect some, I guess – if the person has nothing to hide. And the person who sent the code wanted to remain anonymous, for whatever reason.

What’s generally problematic about this letter is the date. It was sent the day after the Harden solution was published. Seems difficult to ignore. And if Z sent it – what was his game?

I actually think the writing does not look a lot like Zodiac’s, but the lack of the finger prints is really odd. I wonder if the palm print from this letter was compared to other palm prints in the Z case? Maybe Det Poyser knows.

Trav, did you ever compare this writing to Zodiac’s, or the Desktop?

Can’t remember but I have ‘looked’ at it. Might have even posted about it but for now I can’t remember where or when. There are some inconsistencies (ie things Zodiac never did) and there’s a lack of definitive traits (things he did do).

EDIT:

Turns out I did.

Here’s what I’ve called the ‘incompletes’. Letters in the keycode that aren’t connected. The red arrows point to them. This seems likes a trait and not a Zodiac one. I also appear to have compared some of it to the desk top but I can’t remember why. Probably a ‘closest match’ scenario but I only have the images and no notes so who knows what I was thinking at the time. I don’t lol. Here it is anyway but I don’t think there’s anything interesting in it. I don’t think it’s Zodiac’s handwriting.

Too bad he didn’t send in a key for the 340.

Sure does look like Z’s handwriting to me. This is a very cool find. :)

It certainly uses most, if not all, of the letters Zodiac used to create his words. :P

Here’s the handwriting comparison I did a while ago:

Thanks D.

I’d forgotten about that. For my two cents it certainly seems to carry some similarities and possible habits of the Hardens key writing. One of the first things I look for when comparing samples is the shape of the lower case C’s. Both this sample and the Harden’s key are very, very similar and in turn they both lack Z’s signature shape, and most oft employed, which is that angled turn as opposed to a curve.

Tails of the Lower and upper case R’s.

Also his B’s. His B’s give him away sometimes.

Both comparisons are really great. Spot on. I wouldn’t put it past him to write it in, but give them the wrong code. The bastard loves taunting them and reminding them he’s still around and won’t be caught.

I agree, very close similarities between the cipher Key and the Harden’s writing. Not so much when comparing the cipher key, and the Zodiac writing.
So, let’s say for a second, the Harden’s were the donor of this code key. Why go thru the trouble of making sure not to leave finger prints on it? I know there are some that think Don Harden is a Z suspect, and some that think that him or his Wife wrote the Z letter, but I think the comparisons from you Dave, show that the Harden’s writing does not match the Zodiac’s

Also, compare to download/file.php?id=3691

It’s unclear to me who wrote that. Does it say in the FBI files who wrote it?

That picture looks familiar, but not sure who wrote it

Don’t remember. Making the FBI files (easily) searchable strikes me as a worthy undertaking.

But it was probably some agent or other who wrote it.

Handwriting? Less said, the better. People’s handwriting tends to resemble other people’s handwriting. That’s my conclusion.
