Hi,

If this is a Z crime, it is interesting that he seemed to have an affinity for cab drivers and wealthy neighborhoods. In his autobiography, I Never Look Back, KQ talks very early on about his special relationship with a cab driver and he obviously was wealthy in 1962, as he was in 1969. So wealthy neighborhoods were his comfort zones. So there is a cab and the mention of a bus. Z seemed to be all about vehicles, sort of like KQ.

The first name of the protagonist of the book that was found on the front seat of the cab is certainly interesting…in a black comedy sort of fashion.

Hi ConcernedCitizen

I have some questions:

1.What book was found on the front seat of the cab, title and name of the author ?
2.What was the name of the protagonist ?
3.Were did you find the info about the book found on the front seat of the cab? link please .

Hello TF…

The book in question was a pulp crime genre paperback titled Dance with the Dead, by Richard S. Prather.
The protagonist of this and several other Prather novels was a Southern California PI named SHELL Scott.

Someone discovered the names and occupations of two brothers who are in that book. They have the same name and similar occupations as my POIs (reserve officers). It even mentions one of them was in San Quentin. One of my POIs worked there. Both are brothers (twins) and yes that is their surname.

Now couple that detail with what you read here viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4855

Just look at the locations. San Quentin, Presidio Heights area, Vallejo, Eureka, near Lake Berryessa, Oceanside, Mare island, Santa Rosa. Some of them around the corner from areas of interest.

I think the stumbling block is in the idea the Zodiac would never give away clues about himself. Yet I think back in 1969 he didn’t have the forensic awareness to tell him not to do that and instead played the very game who he set himself up as. The Riddler. I mean what good are you as a Riddler if your riddles aren’t valid? You aren’t winning one over people. No emotional satisfaction.

We identify the Zodiac not by M.O (because that changes). We identify the Zodiac because of his emotional signature. The need to play games over his identity.

Just like Oceanside and that book…

This is from 1968, but Joseph Alito is listed living as living there, literally a 5 minute walk from Paul Stine. That basically cements that this is an early zodiac crime for me.

That William H. Orrick Jr. guy listed looks a bit like the Stine composite.

Here is a link to a little bit of research done on the people listed there in Presidio Terrace…

William Horsley Orrick Jr. was born October 10, 1915:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_H._Orrick_Jr .

William Horsley Orrick Jr. (October 10, 1915 – August 14, 2003)

And his son was born 1953:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Orrick_III

William Horsley Orrick III (born May 15, 1953)

So one was too old and one was too young to be Zodiac.

1915 probably is too old, but maybe not. People looked younger back in those days because they took better care of themselves and there wasn’t a McDonalds on every corner.

The picture that Coffee Time posted was from ’65 and he doesn’t look all that old there.
