I spoke to Mr. Walter and he agreed with me about the Belli letter. He said that it was just another way to brag and taunt (Z may "loose control" and take more victims, etc.). But the overall tone of the letter was tongue in cheek. A power-assertive would never express emotions or admit to moments of weakness because it undermines his power: emotions are signs of weakness. Since we know Z was a power-assertive killer from his crime scenes, the Belli letter had to be irony or tongue in cheek.

As far as letter writing is concerned, yes BTK, a sexual sadist, also wrote letters. The P-A (power-assertive) profile would predict the need to brag in general (in Z’s case, it meant writing letters so the entire Bay Area knew about him) BUT letter writing and attention seeking do not necessarily predict the P-A profile because several different types of killers can boast and write letters.

So when Mr. Walter did the profile and Z was determined to have been a P-A, that would have predicted that this person would have needed, in general, to brag about his crimes. Usually that amounts to someone telling a friend or maybe a bartender he had killed someone. But Z took it to the nth degree! But if you simply describe someone who is killing people and bragging about it, you could not conclude what type of killer it was until you learned more about how he killed his victims (sadist, power killer, etc.).

BTW, I think you can attribute Z’s famous "aloofness" to his inability to express emotions and get emotionally close to people.

Good stuff Mike R. I look forward to hearing your interview when I have some time later to listen to the whole thing. I think behavior models are an area where we can perhaps gain more clear insight than say the codes or other more abstract areas of the case.

I’ve heard people say BTK, or whoever, did such and such and Zodiac did such and such too… but it’s equally, if not more so, important to look at the things that they did differently as well.

Maybe they shared some personality traits, but to me their behavior doesn’t seem all that similar.

Actually Son Of Sam was a lot more like Zodiac then BTK and also wrote letters. He seem to be a P-A killer to a point and also had the city in fear.

A strange thing happened-let me know if anybody else has this issue-all I did was click on the last page of this thread to read the newest posts, and the radio show started playing in the background,and I cant figure out where it’s playing or how to stop it. Anybody else have this happening?

There is something odd about that stream though. I have a 16 channel sound card and everything I listen to is routed through it from my instruments to my pc to my TV and they all have their own channel. The TV is an optical connection and when I watched/listened to the show it would show up on my TV channel then it turned up once on my pc channel, where it should have been.

Maybe it’s becoming self aware and were gonna have to battle Skynet for real.

I have my laptop hooked to my TV through VGA and had no problem when I watched it. I watched it live though and not the archive version. I did have music playing on my desktop at one time in the past and could not explain where it came from. The reboot fixed the issue also and said before that as while my PC is possessed lol

My pc is connected to my TV via HDMI which also carries audio so maybe that’s where my blip came from but I have my sound routed through the soundcard and not the HDMI sound on my graphics card. Maybe there’s something in the info in the stream though as it is radio and TV combined, could have caused an activation of my HDMI sound. It’s not disabled, just not set as my primary sound source.

Finally got to listen to all of it…great job Morf and Mike. I’d like you both to have another hour.
