A mostly sympathetic view of Amanda Knox, leading up to the recent guilty verdict in Italy.

Based on the evidence, I think she is totally innocent, and the right man was convicted, a man she did not know and would not have teamed up with in a spur of the moment thing. This was a witch hunt against her from start to finish, and the Italian system is insane, as is the prosecutor.

"Kercher’s killer is actually Rudy Guede, an itinerant African immigrant.
Guede found Kercher’s body in the house she shared with Knox (even though he didn’t live there). His fingerprints were found at the scene. He admitted being there prior to the killing (and using the toilet). And one of his palm prints was found in a blood stain underneath Kercher’s body.
He then fled town, and had to be extradited back to Italy from Germany to stand trial. He’s serving 16 years.
In the excellent book on the case, "The Fatal Gift of Beauty; The Trials of Amanda Knox," author Nina Burleigh describes Guede’s history with the law: He was previously arrested for housebreaking, and on one occasion stole a knife (Kercher was stabbed)."

Agreed, AK – I think she’s totally innocent.
It’s a shame this has gone on so long.

Amanda may not have actually murdered Meridith, but I cannot write her off as being completely uninvolved.
The fact that she tried to shift the blame to a totally innocent man makes me very suspicious.

I agree, I’ve just refreshed myself with the main points of the case and there are some definite unanswered questions about Knox & Sollecito’s behaviour / explanations. However it does also look like Italian LE have compounded anything unusual and warped the situation into such a tangle I doubt it can ever be resolved satisfactorily. Really hard at this point to say if Knox is covering up her own actions, those of a friend, or has been completely manipulated by the strange Italian questioning techniques.

Human nature. Wrongfully accuse someone of murder, they will react in different ways, including blaming who they might think have done it.
Also, she was harshly interrogated with a langauge barrier, who knows exactly what she said.
Bottom line, there is no physical evidence against her or her boyfriend. They did not know Rudy, who actually killed Meredith, and I don’t see them joining up with him in a spur of the moment thing.
James her behavior was odd, and seen as cold and uncaring. The fact is she did not know Meredith well. But that does not excuse her behavior. But other than her behavior, there is simply no evidence against her. ALL the evidence points to the man who raped and killed Meredith, and that is Rudy.

The Italian justice system is truly horrific. They let mafia members who commit murder free all of the time, this is the same system that tried to prosecute scientists because they didn’t predict an earthquake. Truly insane.
I agree entirely AK, that her behaviour is not evidence against her – I never like to judge someone else on the way they appear to be acting as who really knows what’s going on in someone’s head? What I was mainly referring to was their behaviour between thinking something was wrong, calling the police, and finding out there was a body (ie before any cameras showed up). It’s that period of time combined with the fact that the burglary has a lot of hallmarks of a fake that make me think twice about closing the book on this one.
In Knox’s favour is the undeniable fact that the Italian questioning techniques used on a frightened young lady would have undoubtedly led to her confused statements.
What works against her is that the only people who had need to fake a burglary after the murder were people who needed to prove a outsider had entered the property.
Does anyone know if Rafaele has received the same sort of media attention inside Italy as Knox has outside of it? he seems to be getting away with a lot of the spotlight attention on other people.

The fact that there are so many inconsistencies in their stories is a huge red flag, IMO. It seems like they kept changing them when something new came up to refute their alibis. I’ve also read that her interrogation was something like 2.5 hours at most. That sounds reasonable. And what about the shopkeeper who saw Amanda waiting for his store to open the morning after the murder? That ruins her story about sleeping until 10:30 in the morning.
Her boyfreind is going back to stand trial again reportedly … why ? …thank you sir may I have another .
Her then boyfriend is an Italian citizen he never left.

the news segment I saw , showed he was in Austria, which might extradite him anyway.

No he was in an Italian hotel near the Austrian border and when this new verdict came out police confiscated his passport.
