yeesh, wow. thanks for the link. i followed that case for years and was genuinely surprised that rader did not fit the standard profile much at all.
Yes, very interesting. I feel sorry for Radar’s family as they are his victims too! Can you imagine their shock and horror to discover someone they loved was guilty of such heinous acts?
It is very easy to understand why she is upset with Stephen King; she expresses herself very well.

It’s funny, isn’t it, that sometimes generalising doesn’t help at all?
I’m a Stephen King fan, me, but I reckon this bit: "My family has tried hard to fight the good fight, to stand on our faith & live out a peaceful life. So let us live that life & please, leave us out of it. Out of the noise & chaos & the ugly & the awful."
Well, that’s pretty darn powerful.
So "art imitating life" is now "exploitation"?
Perhaps the daughter is exploiting a non-issue to place her name within the papers.
Just a thought.

I have to agree. I read that story of King’s around a year ago and it’s pretty generic as far as serial killer lore goes (good story, however). There is no way he could ever be accused of exploiting this or any other case in relation to it; like all artists he was probably quite shocked by a particular real-life event and it was simply the spark that set him off down a creative path. I’m sure there’s been far worse ‘art’ created in the name of BTK inspiration over the years that has (mercifully) never seen the same level of media coverage.
Unfortunately it’s a part of modern life that media and art will often keep these events alive and that can be very painful for all those involved, but it has and and always will be a part of human nature to document, examine, and re-tell this kind of story as a way of understanding. We on this forum are a perfect example of that need in action.

I see your points as well as hers. I do think it would be nice if those like King would consult with victims and their families and loved ones first before writing books or producing movies. At least they can be prepared to relive their horror. It would also be nice if some of the profits went to the victims (including family and friends) who DON’T write books and try to profit in anyway from these tragedies. I’m sure they could use it to supplement whatever income they have. The Rader family undoubtedly must have experienced serious financial losses after the truth came out.
and now he does too.
