Morf, just a thought. If you are writing to our Janice Crum, my gut feeling is that she might respond much better to a woman. I hate to be dishonest in contacting her but I think a woman would have a much better chance of getting a response. Maybe Mrs. Morf can sign off on it or, if you’re calling her, maybe you can disguise your voice?

I live a county over from Lancaster. This is the first I have ever heard of this murder. I wonder if it has any connection of the unsolved Betsy Adsma murder? The main suspect lived in that are of the state.

Hm..Betsy Aardsma lived on the other side of Mechanicsburg (Janic Crum), opposite to Lancaster. You also may wanna have a look into the case of Ilonka Cann. Elaine Fay Lehtinen was also originally from PA. And Ranee Ann Gregor (Robinson Township, PA)..her boyfriend John Feeny was found very close, near the same road to where Betsy was killed, on Crescent Road, Altona. IMO Betsy, Ranee and Lindy could very well match together..

Ilonka was about 80 miles East of Betsy Aardsma, not far away either (not in map). Also I am not 100% sure if Crescent Road (John Feeny) was the one in Altona or even the one in York (which is only a a short distance from Lancaster (Biechler).

The prime suspect in Aardsma’s murder at Penn State was Richard Haefner. Haefner was from Lancaster, where Lindy was killed

That’s the guy I was talking about. He was a serious problem with his neighbors.

I’m curious if anyone has ever attempted to find out whether this Mark Dominick Capollupo was ever tried and/or convicted of this attack or any of the four other sexual assaults that he apparently "fit the description" for? Has anyone ever seen anything more about him or can anyone possibly check his arrest/conviction record? Just exploring a theory…

Seems he was shot and killed in a jail escape attempt.

Hmm… thanks, Seagull. Interesting. Is there any way of telling whether he was convicted of the alleged assault in Lancaster indicated in the article or for the multiple other incidents that he apparently fit the description for?

What I’m interested in finding out is whether the four other assaults from Dec. 75 and Jan. 76 in which the women "related stories of a man who attacked them sexually with a screwdriver, tied them with their own clothes or run over them with his car" were ever solved and whether Capullupo was convicted for these.

Edited to add: I would think the murder this guy apparently committed would put him right up there as a suspect in the Lindy Biechler case, considering he’s a convicted rapist, possible serial rapist actively assaulting women right around the time of Lindy’s murder and carrying around a tool that could be used for stabbing. I wonder if they were able to clear him as a suspect.

Entropy, I looked at newspaperarchive.com there were only 5 articles that came up doing a name search on him. One was the article you posted from Jan. 15, 1976 and the other four were related to his being shot and killed and they all said basically the same thing.

The article I posted does describe him as a convicted rapist but does not say which crimes he was convicted of doing. That’s all I could find. I really wanted to find something about that Arizona murder that is mentioned. I couldn’t find him connected to Arizona in any way. Past addresses for both of his parents did not include Arizona. His father died in 2007 in Florida and it looks as if his mother is still living.

He is not listed in the social security death index but maybe he did not have a social security number.

Great work though, Seagull. I can almost picture him climbing that prison wall because he would have dropped down right next to the street where I lived in Lancaster (although some distance away). The prison guards obviously didn’t mess around.

It’s those sexual assaults with a screwdriver occurring right around the time of Lindy’s murder that interest me. That’s kinda odd signature behavior. How would that match up with the attempted sexual assault on Lindy?

Entropy, I would have to check with Lindy’s Brother on that, but as I recall, this guy WAS a suspect, but I dont know if they ruled him out or not, via evidence of some sort.

Here’s a question for anyone:

Articles about the Vidocq Society meeting to look at the Lindy Biechler case quote forensic psychologist and Vidocq Society member, Richard Walter, relaying this message directly to Lindy’s killer:

"Don’t buy any green bananas.”

Any ideas of what he is trying to convey? It’s clearly a type of subliminal message and I have an idea but I’m interested in what anyone else thinks.

Green bananas take a while to ripen. Maybe Richard Walter is saying the killer will be caught soon and won’t have a chance to wait for the bananas to ripen so he can eat them. That’s all I got!

Here’s a question for anyone familiar with this case… Any idea how it was determined that there was an "attempted sexual assault" in this case when Lindy was apparently found fully clothed?
