Great listen. Many details many listeners won’t have heard before.
Thoroughly enjoyed the first two eps. Already looking forward to the next one. Good work Guys.
Hey, guys! Listened to both episodes, and I thought it was very well done.
A couple things that I wanted to bring up:
1. Richard mentioned the strangeness of the car being gear and the car to on. As Morf mentioned, that was likely due to listening to the radio. Also, if we assume that Darlene was preparing to leave, then the car would be in reverse, not first. As it seems both of her hands were on the wheel, it seems unlikely she was preparing to change gears.
2. I have spoken to several operators who worked for PT&T back then including one who worked at the same switching station that the call went through that night on 730 Carolina St. It was standard procedure for operators to ask the number from which the person was calling. It’s probable that Zodiac called the operator and asked for the police, the operator then would have asked the number Zodiac was calling, and Zodiac provided it. In this way, the operator would have known exactly where Zodiac was calling from, and would explain the extremely fast "trace". This would also explain how quickly the operator was able to ring back the phone. This is also underscored by the Zodiac’s behavior at for the Napa call. It states in the police report that the operator asked for the number and Zodiac repeatedly refused to provide it. He had learned his lesson. My guess is that the phone rang back almost instanly – certianly within 60 seconds.
3. Also, if the Zodiac lived within walking distance of the phone booth on Springs Road and Tuolumne then one would only need to do a search of residents within a mile radius of that intersection. Then identify all the white males between the ages of 25 and 45. My guess is that would reduce the number to less than 1000. After that, it would only be a matter of researching and eliminating the ones that don’t match. Sounds like a job for a certain computer programming who just solved a cipher….

I agree, if Zodiac walked to that phone booth then he must have lived very close to it and that could narrow the
list of suspects down to just several hundred. And if he was responsible for the CJB murder then we would be
looking for someone with ties to Riverside and likely ties to RCC in 1966, and then he moves to Vallejo between
1967/68.
And congrats to Morf and Richard, great podcast, excellent production !

I actually found a suspect within walking distance of that phonebooth that is such a good suspect, but he has no ties to Riverside. I am 99% convinced Zodiac was in Riverside, but this guy is seriously making me consider that I am wrong. He’s worth further examination.

Loved the first two episodes, guys. It is rare to hear an insightful podcast about this case that actually presents new ideas like you did. I have a question – to your knowledge has anyone ever tried to round up the subscriber info for all of the papers that Zodiac wrote too? I always wondered if he subscribed to them all or went and bought them every day.
Nothing about the hunters as potential suspects? I might start with those guys.

Come on it was the first episode and they have stated that they will be coming back to each attack. They are doing something beneficial to the case so let’s support them. Personally I think they did a good job and it is a refreshingly different approach.
If you have something to add about the hunters please share ???

Well I would prefer a Scouse accent if Mr. Grinell can accommodate?
That was too much!
That is one accent I cannot do, only Irish. Sorry.

Congratulations! Very cool !!!
It’s nice to hear your voices!
Of course, I have to listen slowly, pausing and coming back several times. As for the accent, I find British English very elegant (no criticism of any other accent).
Great job.
