However, that Presidio composite has always looked kind of slim and angular and LE have been very confident that it’s a good likeness which has made me wonder if Z was lean and short but just wore loose clothes & looked stockier.
I’m not confident that Kathleen Johns met Zodiac but she did describe her abductor as being about 5’8" maximum and slim/lean – no more than 160 pounds.

Donald Fouke said he was older and heavier than the composite. I may be wrong (please someone correct me if I am), but I believe a composite based on Fouke’s description is briefly shown on the ‘this is the zodiac speaking…’ docu?

I think the police were desperate to catch Zodiac and covered many thousands of leads. If there was any suspicion of Joe, the cops would have looked into him further. Plus the fact that although facially he does resemble the composite, Joe looks in decent shape with no slight paunch.
