That would create a witness to that evening who never since came forward.
But not an impossible scenario. People really did share cabs, hold cabs, back in that day.

@russ-thompson…..I have never reconciled in my mind as to why he would leave his car in the Presidio area and go back to Union Square and come back again…..another thing I have never reconciled if Fouke and Zelms really did speak to the Zodiac….in Zodiac’s letter, a month after Stine’s murder, he mentioned that two cops pulled a goof….a few things bother me…..since in the past, with Zodiacs nature, why did he wait a month to bring it up?….if true, I think he would immediately rubbed SFPD’s nose in it……does anyone know if this incident was documented or released after the murder and when?…..what I am getting at is this may be a clue as to the Zodiac having access to this information that would indicate the possibility he was LE or a journalist……..

As you can see, Z did not wait very long after Paul Stine murder (two days only). It was Z high season.
What is interesting, however, is that Eric alvin ZELMS got killed not so long after he had seen Z together with Fouke – think this wasn’t mentioned too often.
Another one: Sharp/Gaul is interesting as the crime happened near Manson’s, he even had visited the same house at 921 Bonnie Brae Street (Scientology). However, a letter was found signed “The Zodiac killer”. This note has led to many confusions but in fact it may be assumed that the note was simply faked due to the recent media attention (eg. by Bruce Davis). Z never had signed “The Zodiac killer” but with ‘Zodiac’ or ‘Z’ or the cross-faded symbol only. Also the crimes happened in/near LA while Z had been sending letters from the bay area during that time. Finally, Manson had been a guest at 921, too, reportedly. This actually rules the Sharp/Gaul crimes somewhat out as a Z one, imo.

I think Zodiac had an intimate knowledge of the presidio and theater area, probably related to employment (at one time or another). Z found a parking spot for himself and commuted the last distance to the theater. Parking is very tight in SF. Z may have done this trip recreationally many times before. On the return trip he directs the cab near to where he parked. I think the choice of intersection to commit the assault is then function of where he found good parking close enough to the theaters.
