Note: I have moved the posts about the Riverside College periodicals here to keep from cluttering the Ross dissenters topic.

Good idea, I thought I had wandered into the pro Ross Thread for a second ;)

Thanks doranchak!

I’m glad someone is coming up with constructive ideas on this suspect.

Alright, so we have Expressions, which I suspect may be a creative writing publication, and we have The Spectator. Both published by RCC. Years from 1963-1965 there is nothing, but sometimes the computer doesn’t show everything on shelf.

Doranchak, you made contact already. Are you going to continue to pursue the poem? If not, I can make a try. Three ways to do it. Go to the library, get a library to library loan, or pay someone to make copies. I don’t know if the RCC library would make a library to library loan for something like this. It would be nice if a site member in the LA area could check into it and take a look at all of the publications on the same shelves.

Bates was killed October 1966. Maybe we can get lucky with the two volumes of the 1966-67 school year publication of The Spectator.

I am working with a librarian there. Currently I’m waiting to see to what extent they can help. They can’t provide full copies of so many papers since it covers too large of a time period. But I’ve given them enough info to where they can may be able to skim through and give me any copies of material by or about Ross. Not sure if they will, since the size of the job might be too prohibitive. Plus their semester is starting this Monday, so they are going to be swamped with work.

Failing that, I think the best bet is to find someone who can physically go there to make copies.

Super!

Maybe they would know if there is a chat area where you might be able to ask a student for help. ??

I drive through Riverside nearly every day. If we can put together a concise list of what we’re looking for, I’ll stop by RCC and make scans/take pictures.

That is really nice of you to offer!

Maybe it’d be easier to start with the literary journals, since there are not as many of them. The Tiger Times newspaper was apparently published every week so it will take a while to get those.

The first is "The Spectator" (1966-1971): http://lamp.rcc.edu/search~S7?/cLD6501. … 4&1%2C1%2C Not sure how often they were published, but I guess at most it would be once a month.

The second one is "Expressions" (1959-1962): http://lamp.rcc.edu/search~S7?/cLD6501. … 8&1%2C1%2C

It would be nice to have full copies of all of them, but it may be more practical to skim for any references to Ross Sullivan, R. Sullivan, Cheri Bates, etc.

Thanks!

Years? 1961-1967? [Edit: Didn’t realize he’d been at RCC that long]

Years? 1965-1967?

I would say 1961 through 1967. According to Jo Ann Bailey, Ross entered RCC in 9/11/1961. He apparently moved to Santa Cruz in 1967 or 1968.

Okay. It’s going to take a few trips. I’ll post my findings ASAP.

Would it be worthwhile to look for poems/writings not just by Ross, but also of anyone with initials R. H.?

I will just make copies of the entire publication (depending on length). We can sort through it all later.

The library’s summer hours are not compatible with my work schedule, but, fortunately, they change next week. I’ll try to stop by on Monday.
