I remember a lot of movies. I’m not sure what this thread is for, other than just post your favorite movies?

Since you posted Prisoners; a movie that left a disturbing impression on me, and fitting for this thread title, was Irreversible. There are plenty of other more gory and brutal films, but it’s because of the lack of embellishment and the artistry of the film that precisely makes it more disturbing. If you understand my meaning.

Nope about movies that compelled you and made you think about them afterwards. On that line and not about favorite movies at all.

Is that the one about Sharks? I just saw The Shallows which was a bomb and a total rip off of that one. Edit: I think that one was called Open Water or something.

Another, a forgettable film overall, but with some amazing scenes is Only God Forgives. In particular the first ten minutes or so.

A man randomly attacks a group of women. We see him swing his fist to strike a woman and the camera cuts. Then we hear the woman scream. It’s very effective and without showing anything, one of the most evocative scenes of violence that I can recall.

The ending fight scene is also great and one of the best, but I don’t think I can recommend the film. I now hate the director, Nicholas Winding Refn for making the trash film Neon Demon.

Along those lines what I would recommend is the horror film Starry Eyes, about an actress that literally sells her soul to become famous, which Neon Demon rips off, among others.

Completely unrelated to anything here, but The Matrix. I don’t like movies, I don’t watch many, and most movies don’t leave any impression on me. However, I dunno why, but The Matrix did. I’m big into computer stuff and I also have the occasional existential thought, and sometimes I’m convinced that perhaps the universe really is based on a "program" (e.g. you can "hack" the universe, there’s a ruleset to it and an ability to "manipulate" what is considered modern science)

It’s perhaps the only irrational thought I will willingly admit to having ;)

The simulation hypothesis isn’t all that irrational. Some researchers have gone so far as to investigate specific ways it could be possible, such as this study: https://arxiv.org/abs/1210.1847

So many things in that movie stuck with me! This is, but one.

There are so many movies and I could not come up with just one that has left a great impression on me. So…I had to go back to my childhood….and say "Charlotte’s Web" and "Ole Yeller." I guess they both left an impact on me because I had to learn about death.
