I have a feeling Zodiac wrote this threat against McQueen after reading or seeing on tv that McQueen would be in the bay area filming BULLITT

Yeah, the threat memo starts off in 1967, and then shows the letter & envelope postmarked1977. It covers 10 years. One of the names on the list of people that were to be ‘released’, was a youth, that had ben sentenced the day the letter was postmarked, for threatening to kill the President.

Strange letter, especially if it took 10 years to finish. Am I following that right? Burt Reynolds was also in the area filming a movie. I forgot the exact year, but Sandy knows more about it.

Burt was doing "Hunters are for killing" in 1969, parts of it were filmed in Napa, St Helena, Santa Rosa. He hung out in Napa and bought a horse there. The movie was made for CBS TV Thursday Night movie. I was told by Burt that they were going to film a day at Lake Berryessa. I do know that Burt did have a stalker after making that movie. The name of the movie was changed from "The Return" to "Hunters are for Killing" ,now it can be bought as" Hard Frame".

When Steve McQueen was filming Bullet, he hung out at a water front restaurant in S.F., he was a very demanding person. I have pictures of the camera car used to film the speed scenes in that movie.It went so fast that some camera men refused to be on that car, Steve’s friend Pat Hustis built it.

Morf, the a is missing in the word Zodiac threat letter.
And yes the writing looks very much like Zodiac’s.

Charlie’s Angels didn’t come out until ’76 (as of course every man of a certain age knows). Not much point threatening Jaclyn Smith’s life before that….

Highly likely this is some post- ’76 fruitcake who shares some writing characteristics with our earlier fruitcake.

The word, EDITOR, on the envelope is what has really got my attention. Just looking at the entire letter, I see zodiac’s writing, although it looks like this is alot neater, prepared with a slower hand, taking their time, maybe less disguise? The only thing that doesn’t look Z about it to me, is the letter starts off, with a word with a capital T followed by an h, and Zodiac ALWAYS connected those two letters, this one is not connected. Also, no candy cane f’s anyplace. Still, overall, looks close. Also, was postmarked in Sacramento, close enough to Zodiac’s stomping grounds

I am not sure if this is simply an entire file or various FBI activity on McQueen over the years, it looks like it may be. Therefore, it could encompass 10 years of activity that the FBI collected, not all from the same person perhaps. The file on McQueen at the FBI, mentions a 1963 march on Washington, and also a man calling McQueen’s movie company stating that he and McQueen were supposed to go ‘hunting’. Then it also goes all the way up to this 77 letter.

This was from McQueen’s FBI file too,from way back in 1960 I think. The g looks nothing like Zodiac’s writing, but almsot the same exact message.

If this is indeed from Zodiac, it would rule out 2 of my Favorite suspects, Fred Manalli & Ross Sullivan, as they were both dead by the time this letter was mailed.

I think "threat letter against steve McQueen" is a good match for Z. The lower case t’s look to match and the slash of the upper case T is large like some of Z’s work.
The n’s and k’s and e’s and p’s and g’s look right.The letter starts off with the word "This" like some of the Z writings.The over all tone sounds like the Z writings.
I am no expert of course but I think it is a match.

Regards to the "Gangster Glorification Movies" the n’s and o’s and the v’s match.The slant of those t’s look very, very good.

I agree Morf , there are a lot of the same letters and words used by Zodiac. Most people do a more round "N "Zodiac and this person have it more pointed.

Has anyone ever seen the threatening letter to Johnny Cash about his daughter ? I read about the threat, but didn’t see the letter,I would like to see that writing.

The thread is named this because I presented it as a topic of discussion as being a possible z letter, which is why it’s in the "unconfirmed" section
