it looks like he was initially in for 35 years but was paroled after five (i think) and he went on to murder again in the 80s.
I think this might be posted elsewhere here (?) having seen it before, but it is interesting nonetheless.
I hear over and over again that this sort of thing didn’t happen back in the "the day", but it did. We all know about these horrific crimes because it is what we research. Social media just makes it more widely known now.

Very true. People have it backwards when they say the world is more dangerous than it used to be. The reality is that per capital measurements of violent acts are all trending downwards. Examples:

Anderson was imprisoned for ten years on a minimum 35-year sentence. He was paroled for five. He and accomplice then committed a number of robberies, in which Anderson was convicted of killing a man. This was in 1979-80.
John Frederick Anderson was charged with the first degree murder of Henry Gee during the robbery of the South China Doll Restaurant. Anderson was also charged with first degree robbery in connection with the armed robberies of Casa Lupita, Diamond Lil’s Restaurant, the Fireplace Restaurant, the Red Wing Shoe Store, and with the second degree robbery of Goodie’s Restaurant. After a 3-week jury trial, Anderson was convicted of all counts.

He’s still in prison as of this writing.
