It’s a play on Robin Hood’s Friar Tuck.

I did wonder that also. I was more familiar with Friar Tuck than Friar Puck when starting the research on the letters. In fact, I wasn’t familiar with Friar Puck at all!!

Robin Hood – RH… ;)

You never know!

I think that if the writer was thinking about "Robin Hood" and Friar Tuck, he would have signed it Friar Tuck not Friar Puck.

I do believe that the biggest mistake the killer of Cheri Jo Bates made ,was to sign the desk poem with his initials RH. I read that the FBI or some investigators believed the Zodiac’s first name is Robert.

Darlene’s babysitter said Darlene had said the man who was watching her was either Bill or "Bob", (Bob) is short for Robert.

Was a pun I bet and the writer thought he was funny.

Stitch M, You could be correct, if the writer was Zodiac, he does have a odd sense of humor for sure. I think of him as the "laughing killer".

It’s a play on Robin Hood’s Friar Tuck.

There is a painting by Swiss artist Henry Fuseli – 1741 – 1825 Titled Friar Puck.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Fuseli

He painted a lot of macabre supernatural things and is probably best known for his painting "The Nightmare".

Thanks for showing the links, some of us have seen Fuseli’s painting of Friar Puck, but I didn’t see The Nightmare. Even though his paintings were macabre they were done beautifully! I could see Zodiac having at least one in his home or apt.

One of the newspaper staff in St. Helena wrote back. They do not have anything regarding the letters. He pointed me to a few of the usual local resources. He wished me good luck. So nothing to report on that front.

I wasn’t that impressed at first, but the more I think about it, the better the chance that these are from Zodiac. They are much more on point than the letters that sent Mike Rodelli toward Kjell Qvale, which to me were always a little weak. Those letters were kind of general sixties culture clash.

BTW: where did Shepard and Hartnell live?

I know that Cecelia was interred at St Helena. Curiously, the ceremony was conducted by Carl COFFMAN who was a relative of hers. Familiar surname in this case… :geek:

George Goebel attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Chicago Illinois. While there he was part of the Roosevelt symphony choir. While in the choir he sung leading roles in two of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas one of which was the Mikado. Interestingly, I have read about that school before in relation to the zodiac but I can’t remember what it was.

Come to think of it, and separate from the thing I’ve forgotten, I believe I saw theodore roosevelt in a political artist rendition of the mikado. Puck comes to mind with this as well.

I partially remember now. The school is known as the rough riders (theodore Roosevelt). I was reading about the school because of Tim Holt and the movie Arizona Rangers (I think that’s what it was called). I still can’t remember why the school.

That’s very interesting!!

You got me thinking and doing a little more searching on George Goebel (Gobel). I came upon actress Norma Michaels. Her first acting role was on The George Gobel show in 1954. She later had a role in The Zodiac Killer (1971). Just weird. lol

Here is a picture of the roosevelt mikado I remember. The "puck" I remember turns out to be the name of the building this lithograph was made in. The company that made the lithograph, who also built the building, was J Ottman Lithographic company. The reason why it was called the puck building was due to the puck statues adorning the building. Puck magazine, a satire magazine, started and finished in this building. The last owner of puck magazine was William Randolph Hearst.

The Zodiac killer movie? Now that’s weird!
