Belli’s client list over the years if full of names that are familiar. I was researching a POI and found that the POI had a meeting with Belli but did not end up hiring him. He just wanted to look like "California Royalty" by meeting with Belli. There are really a number of reasons as to what the Z-Belli connection could be. Hell, maybe they were friends and Belli knew who Z was all along. Maybe they were friends and Belli didn’t know his friend was Z. There are thousands of possibilities.

I’d guess that Blind Bat is saying/assuming that the Hautz letter itself was written by Z. It was not, of course. I’m fairly certain that M. Butterfield at ZKF contacted Ms. Hautz a few years back, and she (basically) verified that she wrote that letter.

I spoke with Patricia Hautz by phone. She was very cooperative but concerned about protecting her privacy. Patricia was a student in the Riverside area during the late 1960s, and said that she was “very vocal” on a variety of issues. When asked if she had ever sent any letters to The Riverside Press-Enterprise in 1967, Patricia said, “I did write a few letters to the editor about that time.”

Patricia also provided samples of her handwriting and wrote in an email, “I am attaching a scan of my English text from 1967 that shows some of my writing, as well as a note that was also in the book.” Patricia’s handwriting bore an uncanny resemblance to the writing on the fourth envelope, sent to the Riverside Press-Enterprise newspaper. The lower case cursive “r” and other letters were similar in both writings, and Patricia had a unique way of forming the capital letter “P” which matched the same letter in the word “Press” on the Riverside envelope. Patricia examined the envelope and then stated, “I think you can agree it is my writing.”

Yes … I wouldn’t say that I’d forgotten about the research/work that MB had done on that. I think it’s more that my brain filed it under sorted and therefore a given that everyone else should be aware of it and of the same opinion. Must check it out again, haven’t looked at it in a few years. Pretty conclusive, for me anyway.

I obtained Ms. Hautz’s writing around the same time Butterfield talked to her, and I can confirm, that writing on the envelope is hers for sure. As to whether she typed the letter, I can’t say, but she seemed to recall typing it, although she didn’t seem to solidly remember it

So she liked human interest stories like the Zodiac.

It is a human interest story too!
It was serialized before the publication of the book, in 1951 in the Saturday Evening Post.
There is a backstory to it too!

Fellow Editor in the Post mag. at the time beat your idea to the Press, but it didn’t stop the Zodiac from killing, perhaps human interest story’s about boys turning killers are worthless and have nothing to do with your idea of a blue print for Riverside!

Z unhooks coil wire
CJ exits library
CJ drains her battery trying to start car (VW beetle)
male suspects tries to start car and advises of battery dead
male subject says my car is just around the corner and me an Miss XXXXX will give you a ride
CJB walks away feeling comfortable being around another female..sense of security
CJB unknowingly walks away with 2 people who despise her..or may be the male did what the female wanted,,may be the female (jealosly..did CJB steal somebody’s boyfriend?) hated CJB so deep she wanted her dead and the male did her desire
CJB gets in the alley and both suspects go at her
we know the rest

not saying this is even remotely what happened..but I have pondered this sceniro over time..not even sure CJB is responsibilty of Z…i dont really trust PH..not sure she is telling us the whole story..what compelled PH to write that letter about a killer?..did the killer have association to her hence the lets think of the feelings of the killer and he is a good boy with bad parents/upbringing letter…all my take-god speed..
