Interesting stuff, and quite possibly the motivation for Zodiac

Yes, as mentioned elsewhere this is genuinely interesting.
It’s nowhere near being conclusive, however. There are other possible sources for that hood which aren’t less compelling.
It all comes down to the status of the Halloween Card. If we call that a definite Z production, the Holt angle is just about the best there is.

I have never gave the hood a thought in terms of the card. Not sure why but I haven’t. Tim Holt is a great find and the idea presented by Eduard is as well. However, there are so many things on that card. I wonder what other avenues can be taken with the remaining items?

Hi all!! Just found an interesting 1950’s-1960’s ad showing kids making masks from paper bags….thought that I would share. I wish that I knew if that was writing at the bottom of the table cloth … or just a design.
Good one Margie, that is close to the one put in my car on the 28th or 29th of Sept 1969. Years before we ever saw what the costume looked like. It was more narrow and was painted black to match the other half of the costume, the eye holes were very much like the ones you have shared with us, thank you very much.
Seagull found another paper sack hood that was at UC Berkeley, perhaps she can re-show the one she found? The costume was not a hard one to put together like some would like to believe. I thought is was an early Halloween costume that was left in my car in Napa by mistake, along with many other things used by the Zodiac.
Sandy….
I would think the dickie, whatever you would call the portion of the costume that come down Z’s chest, and has the Z symbol on it would have been made of cloth and a separate piece from the headgear.

That is correct BA60’s, the costume that was put in my car was in two parts the top was a black paper bag ( not as wide as the one shown above) the dicky that I call a poncho had the white logo on it, the logo would have been near the center of the killers chest area , that part was black cotton about 36 inches wide a yard and a half long. It would have come down close to his belt line not cut off just past his chest as I have seen in some drawings. It also came down the back side as well.
Napa PD told me that it is very hard to believe that the hood was made of paper !
Yet no one could have read what the costume looked like at the time it was put in my car, so it had to be the true costume. What I thought was dirt on it, must have been the victims blood.( Not a lot of large spots, but several small spots) There was only one dime size reddish orange spot on the logo itself.
For the police to ignore that information, is one of the many reasons why the case has not been solved in my opinion.
Do you still have the costume? IIRC, you threw the hood away but saved the bib/vest with the logo? Perhaps you could take this to Riverside with you to show to any appropriate persons.
Do you know when the costume was first publicized anywhere? It sounds almost exactly like what my poi had. The hood was made out of a paper sack which he told me he colored with black ink or shoe polish. The bib/vest was made out of black felt IIRC. He told me he’d gone to a fabric store and purchased the material and some black Ritz dye which he used for some of it. IIRC, it was the shirt underneath but I can’t be certain after all this time. He told me he’d used an old t-shirt or sweat shirt and cut the sleeves off and used it as a pattern. But now that I just typed that, am thinking I could be mistaken about the hood and it was made of felt and he’d used a paper sack as the pattern.
There was the terrible smell from the ink or shoe polish. He had the whole thing rolled up and put in a shoeshine kit which he kept in his garage. Like you, I thought it was a Halloween costume. The logo in the center of the chest was white and he told me he’d used his dice cup or a drinking glass and traced around it and painted the circle and cross with white out IIRC!
