So, I’ve been doing a tiny bit of research into trying to determine the type of car driven by Zodiac. Full disclosure: I’m not a car guy, and certainly not a vintage car guy. However, some of my research has led me to the possibility that the car could have been a Volvo.
Based on the various descriptions given, particularly the track width at Berryessa and the description given by the three co-eds there, could the car have been a Volvo? Anything to eliminate that car immediately?
Any and all help is appreciated.

The co-eds said light coloured 2 door sedan, quiet, but used the descriptor "very conservative", or at least one of them said that. Might mean slightly older model, but I always took it to mean a US car rather a European one, i.e., more fashionable amongst younger college types. Graysmith records it as a 1966 full size Chevrolet.
By omitting to say, "European" I guess the default would be a US car type.
However, I too am not a car guy. And am curious why you think Volvo.
Well the current POI owned an ice blue Chevy Nova. I think that may fit.

Who’s the "current POI"?

There is a very interesting thread called ‘Cars’, also this one :

Figured out tire track distance is a match not to the Mercury but Ford Falcon exactly (was it 57”?)

Morf’s suspect.
Where did you see that he drove a Nova?

Got to speak to someone who works at a certain data company and is able to trace a lot. McDuff was an off the grid type, and as Morf has said California records are tough, but he found out all 3 of his addresses in CA, both in Oregon. Found out he owned 6 boats over his lifetime. In Oregon alone he had 26 registered guns.
And between 1966 and 1971 he drove an ice blue Chevy Nova.

Didn’t Lee Mellor say likely to own more than 5 guns? That’s incredible.

That’s a pretty significant claim. Do you have any evidence to back that up?

So far, these claims have NOT panned out

It’s early. Without saying too much about how I know him (nothing nefarious to be clear lol), I am trying to confirm some of the evidence. As in being able to replicate it in some form.
Until you are able to verify any of this, I remain more than dubious.

The person passing this info was also supposed to send it to me today, he never did, so I remain unconvinced

I looked up Volvo 68’s and they are an oddly "conservative" looking car for that period. Anachronistic even. Quite distinctive however.
