For me this has always been a direct reference to the Leona Roberts abduction / murder. The tickets were for possibly the 6 month anniversary of her death, to a couple who had the year before lived just 5 doors down from her Fiance in Vallejo.

Sorry to digress but also a few doors away was a family of Seventh Day Advents who had a son at PUC Angwin in 1969 and a daughter who moved to Glendale in 1963 :?

Coincidentally he was as La Sierra at the same time of Cecelia’s sister.

What a Small world

One more item of interest; the Ashbaughs bought their home from Paul Bentley who was a real estate guy. In 1969, Paul Bentley’s office was at 721 Tuolumne in Vallejo, 200 feet from where Z called after his BRS attack

A couple of interesting facts about Paul W. Bentley that maybe connects him to Morf’s POI. He does seem to have relocated his office from 755 Tuolumne St where it was in 1967, to 721 Tuolumne St in 1969.

Bobbe Bentley mentioned in the post above, was Paul’s second wife. Previously, he was married to Norma Bentley until 1967, but left her to marry Bobbe in 1968.

Norma doesn’t seem to have remarried, since she names Paul as her husband in her obituary. This was somewhat confusing to me, at first

See Bobbe’s obituary

and Norma’s obituary

As well as mentioning that she worked for Mare Island shipyard and for the Vallejo School Board, Norma’s obituary also states that she was a past Matron of Eastern Star No. 3, the order of which her mother had been a member. Paul W. Bentley was also likely a mason, like his father. So both came from very masonic families.

This means that Norma and Paul would likely have some connection to Vallejo Naval Lodge 87, to which Order of the Eastern Star was appended. Typically, the Matron of OES would be the presiding officer of the lodge, so it was a senior and significant position.

Further to this Norma and Paul’s, son Wesley Scott Bentley attended Vallejo High, graduating in ’61. Wesley was also councillor for The Order of DeMolay according to the announcement of his marriage to Elizabeth Ruth Cannon.

Wesley, who is still alive, followed his father into realty and lived for many years in Elk Grove, Sacramento, dealing in properties along the Sacramento River and in Honolulu.

Zodiac had a habit of trying to inject himself in other murders, this is a typical example of this. Leona Roberts was the case in question.
