Zodiac Unmasked, Pages 137 to 138, on January 4th, 1971 an anonymous letter seems to suggest the following (among others): Some guy’s father has been getting away with famous crimes since 1947. (The Black Dahlia?) Also, he made killer out of the son. Is this an early, vague reference to George Hodel and his son, Steve Hodel?

Wasn’t Hodel a police officer in the early 70’s?

This sounds familiar. Remember reading about it a while back.

Interesting in that thread….there is an article posted on the last post that talks about Stine’s shirt being mailed back in bits and pieces over a period of 7 years attached to letters signed Zodiac. Was there more than one letter with a piece of Stine’s shirt in it? I would guess that statement was something Toschi told the reporter at some point.

There were three pieces of Stine’s shirt sent in letters but as far as I know they were all sent in 1969. There’s a thread about that here-

I don’t think multiple pieces were mailed out, but it does seem as if there was fabric unaccounted for. It would have been easy to prove it was him for some of his future communiques.

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969
