You are heading down a dark road if you are looking at people just bcause they are wearing glasses. Lots of dead ends!

Yes definitely so. Also heading down a dark road by looking up names in old phone books based on secondhand information. :|

Interesting thoughts here about the tape theory however.

Hi all,

I think I identified Z, but don’t worry as there still is the cipher to crack.. ;)

Zodiac’s name is ‘Paul’. In his 7/19/78 letter starting with ‘I am in control of..’, Z claims

I have my name on the bottom of the lid with the scotch tape

Well, at that time – no matter if metal tape or not – scotch tape might still have been sold like this:

On the ‘bottom of the lid‘ is indeed written a name – Paul. Not enough? Darlene Ferrin had mentioned a ‘Paul’ being the guy she had seen murdering someone. Police had searched for this ‘Paul’, however could never locate him. This somehow confirms the theory that Z had given his name in connection with the scotch tape as mentioned.

Please, don’t bash me too hard on this..any suspects named Paul? Here is a so far unrelated extract of the 1966 yearbook of Ramona High..

QT

VPD did find Paul, he was living north of Napa. His name was Paul Jennings or Jensen. He was questioned ,his wife gave him a alibi and was cleared.

keep in mind that "Philip" derives from the Greek term for "horse-lover." Think the knight piece in chess.

Ther’e s a PAUL P. I think in an unredacted report

The redacted name of Paul , could be the one associated with the report I made in either late 1969 or early 1970 ?
He was Paul V. Jennings or Jensen .
The VPD were able to find him , his wife at that time gave him a alibi that he was at a ball game. I remember that I danced with him at the Coronado Inn, he fit the description of Zodiac and acted very strange, so I told Buzz’s buddy George Bawart about this Paul. I was asked that if I were to see him again, to get his license plate and tell George, so I did and they found him.

Why am I thinking Paul Petrie…?? Familiar to anyone?

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

Absolutely, Paul Petrie was one of the people that the police spoke to right after the Lake Herman killing. He was I believe the one who gave the boy who threatened David a alibi for that night , saying they were watching Global Affair on TV. Petri was a policeman at Mare Island, he was easy to find.

The Paul I was speaking of was hard to find because he didn’t live in Vallejo , he lived someplace like Yountville or Vacaville.

The other person that Graysmith named Paul who was a bartender ,ironically had the same cars that my husband and I owned . We had a Chevy that was Blue and white and a truck that looked sort of pinkish light brown and a Pontiac. My husband bought the truck from some guy in Vallejo, weather or not it was from Dean Ferrin I have no idea ?
My husband was a bartender in Vallejo. Pretty coincidental if you ask me. Especially when you add the costume being put in our car. Sure seems like a frame up if you ask me.

Here we go with a list of ‘Pauls’ from the 1960 Ramona High yearbook (in which a ‘Jim Crabtree’ can be found as well, btw..has this been discussed?):

Paul Bisnett
Paul Cochran
Richard Paul Faulmann
Paul Skates
Paul Scheidig
Paul Combs
Paul Kasper
Paul Christoffersen
Paul Boucher
Paul Mueller
Paul Biber
Paul Downs
Paul Villegas
Paul Bryson (Movie Projector)

At least two guys are interesting..Scheidig has a similar appearance, however I couldn’t place him in the Bay area. Another Paul was sort of a movie ‘buff’, using a movie projector at Ramona High.

For what it’s worth, the policeman was not Paul Petrie, his name was Othie Loughmiller,I’ll post his pic. He also used the name, Otha Pebley.

Otha Leon Pebley was the son of John Pebley and Bertha Brooks. He was adopted by his aunt Bertha Pebley and her husband, Clyde Loughmiller. Beula and Clyde divorced and Otha remained living with Clyde who raised him to adulthood. He became known in his family as Othie Leon Loughmiller the name he used through his life.

‘Paul the Bartender’ as he was known as in the Graysmith Book was actually,George Waters, he has a pic on this page-

Thanks for clearing all that up Morf. I knew that George Waters was a bartender and one of the men who bothered Darlene . He lived at Sandy point or Sandy ct on the water with a waitress who worked with him.
Zamantha and I went there a couple of years ago, those pictures are on this site.
I thought that there was one other bartender who worked at Chris’s club ?

Where did Paul Petri come into the picture ? I was asked to look him up yrs ago and was told that he was the cop at Mare Island who gave the alibi to the boy that threatened David. (That was what I was told by Ed N. ) I trusted what Ed told me, because he was very good at investigating with me. Although he was wrong about Nancy Slover being dead in 1995. Now I know to re-check everything myself.
I do remember the other guy you just mentioned ,being talked about over at Zodiackiller.com .
Too many names and so many years( 48 yrs ) doing this, my mind gets boggled. Sorry about that , but it’s good that it was brought up for the newbies who don’t know who’s who.

This particular Paul that I mentioned above was the one that VPD was looking for , but he was not a bartender. He is mentioned in Graysmiths book and was a boilermaker. His wife gave him an alibi. I wasn’t talking about the Paul AKA George Waters. In the police report I believe the first name showed as Paul but the middle and last name was redacted.
My name is mentioned in the police report with the person I am talking about.
Perhaps we are talking about two different reports ?
Has anyone ever questioned that picture of George Waters ? The description of George given by VPD, is that George had a dark complexion and looked Hispanic. Did the guy in that picture look like a dark Hispanic person to any of you ?

Thanks Morf nice picture of Paul . He has the receding hair line and the brown wavy hair that was described by a few witnesses in the case.

I wish that I could remember the last name of a Paul who was a customer of mine In Richmond Ca, mid 60’s. He was from Vallejo and was a plumber.
He looked the most like the composite than anyone else I have seen. I had forgotten about him, but as I was reading this thread his name being Paul and from Vallejo just now came back to me. This guy liked me a lot and even bought me a very nice "watch".
Perhaps someone from Vallejo reading this thread knew this Paul who was a plumber ? He had a receding hair line, but his hair was more like a light brown rather than dark. I don’t remember him wearing any glasses, but he could have and I just don’t remember.
