Danna Dever grew up in Vallejo, California.
"Having suffered a severe beating, 32-year-old Danna L. Dever was dumped in a rural ditch in 1996 where she would later be found dead by a pair of farmworkers. Not even classified as a homicide for more than a decade, now, nearly 17 years later, Solano County prosecutors have secured a conviction in her murder.
A Solano County Superior Court jury on Wednesday convicted Fairfield resident, Lonnie J. Kerley, 53, of second-degree murder for the death of his former live-in girlfriend following a trial that stretched two months. Dever was found on July 8, 1996, in a rural area near Highway 113 and Flannery Road, but would go unidentified for 11 years, stalling the case."

This is an extreme long shot, but a typed letter (typed on an old style typewriter) mailed 13th July 1996, containing misspellings and spaces in words where spaces shouldn’t exist, was sent anonymously to the District Attorney of Solano County. This person allegedly overheard a man drinking in a bar, calling himself Danny, but bragging about dumping a woman’s body by Rio Vista in the San Francisco Bay Area. I suppose my question is, who was the other patron of this bar, and what was the name of the drinking establishment. It was 20 miles from the dump site. This would have been 1996- Zodiac possibly anywhere from 53-68 years of age.
It would be interesting to get a better picture of the letter. As for the envelope, who knows. I don’t think it’s possible to tell much by handwriting, especially after such a long time gap.
I’ve sometimes toyed around with this idea that Zodiac may have done a full 360 degree turn and that the Badlands and Marco letters, if indeed his, were written with complete seriousness. I am not suggesting that it may have been a change for the better – rather it may have been reaction formation, just another coping mechanism after learning that he could no longer make it to first page. That could be one explanation why he vanished, perhaps he went to live such a moral lifestyle that nobody could ever believe him to have been capable of serial killing.
Richard,
Favor:
Could you type the typed letter out for us? It’s too difficult to read, even when I tried to enlarge it.
Much Thanks. Zam*

I lived in Rio Vista and know where 113 and Flannery rd is, it is less than 10 miles to down town Rio Vista. So the bar might have been elsewhere if it was 20 miles away? Lodi is too far and Oakley is also. But if you turn left coming from Rio Vista , instead of right towards the town of Oakley, Mac’s Old House is about 20 miles from 113 and Flannery.
That is also a very popular bar!
Believe it or not there were two men who went to that bar and asked questions about Zodiac. They approached a dear friend of mine, who hung out there during the day time. My friend told me about the men, because he knew I had a interest in the Zodiac case. I believe I mentioned that to Zamantha ?
Of course I was suspicious of these men asking my friend Tony questions, as if he would know anything about the case? Tony liked to drink and so I was his driver when ever we went to lunch or dinner, which was several times a week during the 1990’s. Tony did tell them his friend Sandy knew a lot about the case. It could be just another one of those very odd coincidences?
I happen to believe that Zodiac was still very active in the 1990’s and claimed to have killed 12 females in Contra Costa County , mostly in the Pittsburg Calif. area.
There is a thread about those murders from about two yrs ago?
Thanks everybody. I tried to get a better image off Youtube to read it, but I couldn’t achieve a good result.

I tried to isolate the letter as an animated GIF excerpt but it didn’t really clarify much:
Getting headache trying to read this moving letter!
The show appears to be Who Killed Jane Doe?, season 2, episode 3. I found a little bigger version of it but not much.
I don’t want to get involve(?) and my boy friend will be mad cause…
But he will kill some one else again if … and it’s not…
Said … was just bragging and … it but I was…
And I no he was telling the truth and I … in the…
Now I know for sure it’s the truth
I wish I had more information but … goes a lot to…
Based on the above I doubt if that text has anything at all to do with the actual content of the letter that was sent… Or then the sender, the person who overheard the things, was a woman.
I found a high resolution version of the episode, and here is the best quality frame I could pull from that sequence with the letter:

Cheers Dave. As for believing the letter was probably from a woman because of the mention of a boyfriend- that could be a convenient addition to further distance the author. It is highly unlikely this typed letter has anything to do with Zodiac, but it doesn’t hurt to chase other options, however slim.
Well done doranchak. Looks like the guy’s name is Danny and this happened at the Buck Horn bar, best I can make out. Says he’s "big and has a beard"?
They said the body was dumped near Flannery Road about 20 miles from the bar. The Buck Horn Bar, 830 N Adams St, Dixon, is exactly 20 miles from Flannery Road.

If Zodiac had worked in the concrete industry, you will notice that two workplaces connect this area to Lake Herman Road. Next to the Buck Horn Bar is Basalite Concrete Products: "Basalite began as a part of Basalt Rock Company, Napa, CA in the mid 1930’s and was acquired by Pacific Coast Building Products in 1979 becoming one of the largest suppliers of concrete masonry products in Western North America. Product lines include structural block, interlocking paving stones, wall systems, retaining walls, ornamental and garden products, and a full range of packaged concrete/mortar products."
Syar Industries on Lake Herman Road: "Our goal is to provide quality products and service that meets the needs of our customers and the communities that rely on them in an honest and ethical manner that achieves customer satisfaction, protects the environment, and provides a reasonable return to our shareholders. Our products include rock, sand, gravel, readymix concrete, and asphaltic concrete that Syar produces by mining, processing, and/or recycling."
