Wotcher Dick!
Re: "It still doesn’t mean the police engaged in a massive conspiracy to invent a boogeyman to explain away a couple of drug murders."
No it doesn’t.
I don’t think Mr Horan said that, either – although (since he said so very many things, and so very quickly) maybe I missed it and he did say that.
I may have picked this up from one of his two previous appearances on that show. He seemed to make reference that the Vallejo killings occurred in an area known for drug activity, and that members of Vallejo PD were undercover or some such thing when the shootings went down and they had a task force set up at the time to stop drug deals.
That’s why I also don’t seen how that ties to Napa or SF, and what this "big law enforcement conference" is he keeps talking about.
And no, I don’t want to go back and review his broadcast either.

Tru dat for LHR. Or at least so it is said here and there. And I suppose it does make some sense that people were driving in and out of the car park at Blue Rock Springs on a regular basis and the police were also there (why not elsewhere?) ‘cos there were a few weed buys going on. And I’ve always wondered why the three hippy types in their van went to a layby in the middle of the night so one of the guys "could go and see a girl he knew" (!!) or somesuch. Yep.

I don’t know about that. Seems to me like they were a bit lacadaisical, but yeah, perhaps that’s why RIchie Hofmann and that Sergeant whats-his-name both turned up at BRS in a short time scale. Seems very unlikely to have been a coincidence, to me. WDIK.

That’s probably the much later Department of Justice cook-out when the new guy made a right mess of getting the information together and generally made things worse, I think – Mel Nicolai – but don’t quote me!
And no, I don’t want to go back and review his broadcast either.
I shouldn’t be rude about him in his absence but yes, doing that should perhaps be a forfeit for something…..

That Vallejo drug stuff sounds like Harry Martin’s deal. He was a reporter in the nineties who published some articles with a conspiracy bent, and some wild ideas. IIRC, there was some truth to it, but he is another guy like Horan that mixes facts with things he just made up in the same breath and I have never been able to get straight what exactly the deal with that is. I know there are some topics on here about it.
I think what he’s talking about with that conference was when all the PD’s working the Zodiac case had a meeting to share their info in San Francsico on October 20, ’69. I don’t know what that has to do with his theory at all…. just that is what happened.
PS. Oh, I see that the Chronicle article about it was written by Kenny Powers, the guy who Horan thinks was in on the hoax. So I’m guessing he thinks that establishes a connection between his two hoaxers, Powers and Hal Snook, who may have been there.

Again, my memory may be hazy between four hours of very verbose material over three shows on that podcast, but I think he thinks the conference was to get together and invent the details of the Zodiac. Like three separate police forces having a meeting about one possible unsub must be a conspiracy.
Yes, your memory is hazy.
Morf just joined the site after listening to the podcast and wanted to say thank you
listened to the hoax theory first after never really knowing too much about it and about half way through that podcast i thought to myself this guy either has got this thing completely worked out or he’s a complete nut job, so when i looked through the episodes and saw that there was a debate i was excited to hear from the other side
about 5 minutes in i kinda had an inkling that you were just gonna let him dig a hole for himself and then nail him, about 15 minutes in when he was still banging on i was thinking SHUT UP DUDE!!!!!
one of the great take downs, kudos, within about 2 minutes of you asking a question or just talking it all became perfectly clear, i then clicked on the site and found all the old posts you and others have made about him and then i was baying for blood
for a guy who can basically talk underwater it was hilarious listening to him freestyle on the spot and just rip out weird facts that had nothing to do with his original ideas
so yeah just wanted to let you know that there are random dudes in Australia listening to you at 3am completely owning Aquaman
cheers
