[snip]

Not many people write things on cars.

These are some of the behaviors that separate Z from the "normal" or "average" person.

Mike

BBM. Do you mean not many serial killers write things on cars? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

When in doubt, don’t.

I meant that if you take all the people in the world and poll them, how many will say they have ever written something on a car? I don’t have numbers handy but the answer has to be (other than race car drivers who may autograph their winning vehicle, as well as a few other random individuals), "Not many."

This has to do with Z not conforming to average or "normal" human behavior, not just "serial killer behavior."

I get what you are saying about taking a felt-tip pen to a car door. However, I was thinking only of the American public and in my opinion we do write on cars. Think of "Just Married" and other type captions and messages written with washable paints or with a finger into dust/dirt on cars. Around here during basketball season you’ll see "Go Cats" with additional verbiage written on at least every third car.

I assume Z used felt-tip pens to assist in disguising his writing and obviously it is a good tool for writing on a car door. He vandalized Bryan Hartnell’s car but I don’t see writing on cars as particularly abnormal (although I’ve never done it … well, maybe once or twice in high school :) )

When in doubt, don’t.

Maybe writing on the car door was a throwback to when he doodled on a desk back at Riverside Community College. :P

Good one, Nacht!

Actually, the desk-top writing and writing on the car door I see as a suggestion of juvenile activity more so than abnormal.

When in doubt, don’t.

Didn’t Gaikowski do it? I thought that was one of the interesting points made.

Gaikowski wrote "This Week’s Special – Low Miles" on cars a lot? I didn’t know.
I guess I can take from this thread that:
1) In writing to the newspapers, Z doesn’t conform to the known (usual) "rules" of Serial Killers. (They don’t usually need this level of public acknowledgement.)
2) In writing on a car door, Z doesn’t conform to the etc. etc., although a lot of people have written other places. (Jack the Ripper supposedly wrote on the wall, the Manson family wrote pretty much everywhere, Ramirez wrote pentangles, etc. etc.)
We haven’t managed to "classify him", yet though. On that "scale of evil thing, for instance….?

I think Z simply wanted to leave a shocking message at the scene of his crime. Maybe it was an afterthought, and when he was about to leave, he grabbed the sharpie from his car. He knew the cops would find his message. Napa was also investigating(and had as evidence)a ‘charlie brown’ card. I don’t know the origin of the card, but it’s in the NAPA report that it was being examined. I asked the most recent Napa Detective in charge of the Z case, but he could not find any more details about it,nor could he find the card itself. Maybe they found it near the crime scene? I have an idea that the card was actually written on by one of the Z suspects, Glenn Albertson, but I am not 100% sure

Morf, we spotted a card like that (we? they? Seagull? me? I forget) in the background of the footage of Bryan being interviewed while still in his hospital bed, recently. It’s another thread around here. Did someone post him it as a "Get Well Card" and someone liked the look of the handwriting? Perhaps.
