Due to the likelihood that this is altered handwriting, maybe it would be best to compare it against the Bates and Marco letters, since those two are the most divergent stylistically.

Morf I agree,

although some things are very different, there are some solid indications

– Th letters close connected to each other
– Candy ‘f’ as in the word ‘California’
– drawings like in Bus bomb letter and writing reminds ‘Good Times’
– sent from San Francisco,
– writes about killing
– mentions he had received some letter to his box office

Letter mentions Tiburon (close to Mt. Tamalpais, Marin County) in one of its drawings.

Seems this draft board letter came to light in April, 1970-

The line where it says "lacks comparable known". If I’m reading that correctly it suggest that on examination there wasn’t anything, or sufficient amount of anything to compare it to Zodiac. FWIW that’s what I felt when I looked at them. Despite there being a few individual characters that ‘could’ be zodiacesque there weren’t any of the ones I would have expected to see or any of the usual habits, patterns or feel etc.

Duck’s suggesting about comparing these to the differently styled Z letters I liked and had thought the same thing as well given the diversity in styles used here but I don’t think it warrants the time until myself or someone else spots something compelling. I haven’t I’m afraid.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

Just something I noticed, probably coincidence(maybe not :o )
I was reading back thru a 1963 Manalli letter, and he also mentions, the "Marin Hills", as does this draftboard letter writer:

I think it will be next to impossible to figure out who wrote this (Zodiac or Not). ‘IF’ he used his real info, name, addess, and SS#, then you would think he almost certainly would have to have been ruled out.

Personally, I think Z lived in Vallejo area, but Berkeley has been mentioned before(questioned document if i remember correctly threatening or mentioning a bay area shrink), also, I remember the psychic Deluise predicted Zodiac lived in Berkeley(not that I buy everything psychics say).

While I see some differences, I see some similarity too. Two things on this that stick out like a sore thumb, the double postage (cant tell how much these stamps were or how many stamps were required), and the obvious unmistakable ‘Z’ in the mail to address. These two items were done BEFORE Z ever mailed a letter in the Zodiac case. This needs to be looked into more.

I do think this Draft Board letter is authentic. Mainly because of the handwriting of the word ‘California’, with other opinions still being allowed. Please also not the ‘Y’ which is very much like the ‘Y’ in the word Celebrity of the Celebrity Cipher card. Also the ‘N’ is very similar to the N/D in the SLA letter (Near/Dear Mr. Editor). Interesting is also the Mandala letter, there you can see that he uses two different types of ‘a’ (Mandala + the word ‘like’ directly below it). Too many similarities imo, also look at the word ‘voice’ being underlined multiple times. Mentions having migrane, btw. Also misspells ‘Tiburon’ as ‘Fibouronn’.

The author mentions of being cared of somewhere at Tiburon (or Fibouronn), which might indicate that he was already in treatment..

There’s no guarantee the celeb cipher is from Z.

I have to go back and look, but that Y looks like Gaik’s if I remember correctly

EDIT:
Looks similar, opinions?

Yes, the Y is sort of unique..or not. The author mentioned sort of a box office, was there one in Tiburon?

morf13 Good points, but a couple things, if this was Z for a second, he might not have any reason to hide his name since this was sent BEFORE any confirmed Z murders, plus, we dont know what name he signed

Somebody’s gotta find that name!

Also thought of Gyke for obvious reasons, but ’70 should have been too early to connect to him as a suspect, no?

Just revisiting this….not going to read the whole thread, and I think Trav came to the conclusion it was not Z, but looking again, I do see some similarities.

Long hanging down lower case g & y, candy cane F, lower case j, connects the top of his T & H in the word, THIS. All similar

Did you notice the P in the word pictures ? A lot like the Patricia Hautz letter ? The writing reminds me more of the Ramsey 3 page letter with all of those umbrella a”s.

I wonder if someone in Calif.,who knew this guy suspected him of being Zodiac , gave his name and military information to LE? Then LE requested anything and everything from the NY draft board ? That would explain how a letter before there was a known Zodiac came about.

Could be! Or some of the people it was sent to remembered this person and someone from the draftboard notified LE.

Morf–there are similarities with certain words. "street"…"this", and of course some similar individual letters and verbage. It’s an interesting find none-the-less.

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

I found a selective svc site that PREVIOUSLY, allowed you to request under FOA, a person’s selective svc number. You needed their general info, etc. Due to a change they made, you can no longer look up somebody born before 1960. However, I am going to do some poking around and see if there is anyway to reverse check that selective svc number, and see if a name can be found.
I would hope that the police,FBI,etc..would have definitely ruled this guy out properly

Just another observation or two on this.

1st off, the writer of this not once, but twice connects the tops of his Th in words that start off with a capital T followed by a lower case h. Z did that 90% of the time.

Also, this writer wrote, "this is the Marin Hills, saying", it sounds so much like "this is the zodiac speaking". Thats on top of all the other stuff, double postage, etc. Interesting letter
