If the photo of the girl in the library is not that of Cheri Bates, it would pass for her twin sister. Point is, it looked enough like Cheri to alert (albeit mistakenly) whoever killed her that Cheri frequented the RCC Library. In this case it turns out, tragically, that his error proved correct.

I think that is entirely your opinion–and your right to it.

I am not sure how (even if it were Cheri) it would alert her killer that she "frequented" the library. Maybe that was the one and only time she went there! It’s a photo of a girl mistaken for years (by the Zodiac amateur sleuthing community) to be Cheri Jo, but the fact is, we don’t know if her killer even saw it and/or if he mistook it to be Cheri, so I am not sure how you can come to that conclusion.

My guess is that if he saw that magazine and he knew Cheri, he too knew that girl was not her. Thanks to the clear photo, I immediately had my doubts–so wouldn’t someone who knew her know better?

I think jmo maybe Dag should focus more on the publication (that this picture that is NOT Cheri was shown in) spoke about the lack of people in the library at late hours – which may have been something zodiac read and took note of when wanting to target a victim at RCC… Whether that victim was specifically intended to be Cheri Jo or not.

The content (Nightime magazine) of what that picture is in interests me, but The girl in the photo isn’t Bates. Thank you Tahoe. I always had reservations about saying it was CJB in the pic as well. Great job. Hugs.

To me, this is just a picture of random students in a library. They could have been anyone, and there is no proof at all that Zodiac ever even saw the picture. Like, ever. Does it even matter who it is?

For one thing, he knew what car Cheri drove. Given the fact Cheri walked away with him, it’s quite likely she knew him.

So… that would make this photo basically irrelevant. Since it isn’t Cheri, even more so.

I think the hairstyle is what made it look like her, honest mistake I am sure. That was probably a popular harstyle

Exactly it doesn’t really matter if it is CJB in the publication or not (it is not her if her brother says so and that is that IMHO). What matters is that the publication that the picture was in (still pic doesn’t matter specifically) was printed not long before CJB was murdered and specifically talks about what was going on around campus with construction (could z have worked construction?) and that the library was undergoing a change in attendance at night time. Most of that issue of Nightime mag was about the library, its staff, and the places students congregate in the library and the specific times in which the library is crowded vs. empty. I don’t think it is a far off theory that the Zodiac possibly took these things into account when he wanted to murder CJB, especially if there was any premeditation involved which her car being disabled might indicate. At any rate, the publication that picture was in bears some importance in our understanding the setting around the time of the murder of CJB. Jmo.

Additionally if the zodiac read the news, I don’t find it far fetched to think he’d be wacky enough to find interest in the college publications in places he was stalking.
