RH could have been from anywhere, ie. Orange County which is adjacent to Riverside.
If RH was a student, he would be more apt to live in the immediate area but not so if he was there for work or some other reason. He could have had a relative living in Riverside and just been visiting, for example.
I think Cheri could have met her murderer through her employment at the bank and that he could have been a customer who didn’t even have an account there. IIRC, it was much easier to just walk into any bank back then and cash a check than it would be today.
Does anyone know just what her position at the bank was? Did she work as a teller where she met the public or in a clerical capacity where this may not have been the case?
why would a murderer leave a poem referencing a murder he committed and include his own initials?

Because he wrote it before the murder ever happened, not intending for it to be connected to the Bates case. Remember, there’s no guarantee that Zodiac killed Bates, he may have only written the desktop poem & letters in her case. It was only a small miracle that the desktop was turned in to police.

Good point! Just like the suspect who went to the restaurant to ask his friend for a ride back to the murder scene (even though he was thought to have his own car) to look for a watch with a flashlight that they couldn’t find!
Oh and the initials "RH" don’t match up with the suspect, Bob Barnett.
I’m starting to wonder if the poem was written by Z even though the handwriting is similar as there are many people with similar handwriting/printing just as there are many who look alike, many who look different from one another but all resemble one or more of the composite drawings.
I also wonder if the English teachers were interviewed by LE to see if they had any ideas about the author of this poem. You’d think they would have been. Since there was the re-enactment in the library, I’d think they would have interviewed all the teachers of all the classes she was enrolled in as well.

Well, writing Expert Sherwood Morrill, stated that Zodiac was "unquestionably" the Author of the Bates letters, and poem. That being said, you either agree with Morrill, or you do not. I personally think he is right

That all assumes RH refers to his initials, just like RP must refer to his actual initials, right? You can sign a letter with anything. Bruno Hauptman, IIRC, signed his extortion letters with colored interlocking circles. The killer of Jon Benet Ramsey signed his letter as "Victory!/SBTC". Crazy people do crazy things.
Why sign a desk top poem, one no one is likely going to see anyway, with initials? If it’s a cry for help, why not write your entire name, or at least your first name? If you’re calling out for help, what good does it do to sign with two letters that could mean ANYTHING? Who is going to connect RH to a specific person if they never even see the poem, a poem written on the underside of a desk that ended up in storage?
RH could stand for anything. Raving Hatter. Red Heckler. Raging Hard-on. Could be anything. Just because someone signs with initials doesn’t mean those initials refer to the person’s actual name, or any name at all.
You’re right RH could mean anything, then again, it could be his initials so no harm checking. Using his initials might be a way for him to take credit for the poem without getting in trouble for defacing school property

Assuming Raona High was a four-year school in the Sixties, the following info was obtained from an RHS website: from September of ”62 to Jun of ’63, the following attended Ramona High: Richard Hall; Dennis Highland; Michael Bates; William Bennett; Cheri Bates.

Ramona HS was indeed a 4 yr high school. I know who Bates/Bates, Bennett and Highland are, who is Richard Hall? Or are you merely posting his name because of his initials? If so, there are more people with those initials that attended the school during that time

Morf:
While prowing through the Ramona Hig website, I stumbled over the above info. I thought it interresting that, in a year when Highland, Bennett and both Bates attended RHS, there was an RH, also. I have no grudge against Mr. Hall–never met him, in fact–but it is what it is. And, as you imply, RH are common initials.
i always thought RH stood for riverside high or some area school..never thought it was initials for the author..the whole desktop writing to me seems like CJB stole boyfriends from other girls and half the skol thought she was a tramp..harsh but thats how i see it..whatever the case she did piss somebody off enuff that there thoughts were penned..may not even been the murderer but its somebody i would like to talk to..not even convinced a guy wrote it..coulda been a women
Slightly off topic but still with Cheri Jo Bates. Local Riverside funeral home Arlington Mortuary used the number (951) 6891011. Z using his zodiac symbol like a time piece and X marks the spot he came up with, 6,8,9,10,11. Unusual or not, the cat thinks this case just gets curiouser and curiouser.
I believe the funeral service of Cheri Jo Bates was performed by a different Riverside funeral company Acheson and Graham. Not sure if they were related.
The numbers are probably just that Zyncronicity thing? !!!
I do not know if that was the same number in 66, all this needs verification if anyone thinks its worth pursuing
PS Can anyone nominate the names of the pallbearers in the photo of Cheri`s funeral.
PSS using the numbers as a puzzle it can read JASON. first letter to each month. the zodiac
To the Mods, move this to another site if required. Zyncronicity or What are the odds.
From the above post. Using "Jason" as a one time key pad" could it work to solve the 340. And does Jason pop up anywhere in other peoples POI
Anyone ever clap eyes on the list of students at the library the night Cheri was murdered? How about her diary? I imagine the answers are negative, but what the hey… .
The ones I’ve found in the 1964/65 yearbooks are

The bold names had not only been on RCC but also Ramona High, therefore schoolmates of CJB with RH initials and the possibility of having received ‘brush-offs’ over years..

Robert Hansen? That isnt this Robert Hansen is it?!
Robert Christian Hansen (February 15, 1939 – August 21, 2014), known in the media as the "Butcher Baker" was an American serial killer. Between 1971 and 1983, Hansen abducted, raped and murdered at least 17, and possibly more than 30 women, in and around Anchorage, Alaska. He was arrested and convicted in 1983 and was sentenced to 461 years (plus a life sentence) with no possibility of parole.[1][2]
This guy used guns to kill his victims, he would also release women into the wild and hunt them like wild game.
