Somehow, the actual image of this letter didn’t make it over to this thread(or I missed it),so here you go:

EXCELLENT!!!

That IS the famous never before seen until now "Atlanta Child Murders" – "Zodiac" letter!

It was postmarked "Atlanta, GA March 8, 1981".

I wrote about it before:

I am doing a FOIA request for this letter mentioned in the FBI Atlanta Child Murders file.

It says it is from the Zodiac, and the FBI handwriting analyst could not say it was from Zodiac, but he could NOT exclude it as being from Zodiac.

All we know is it starts:

"Hello its me. Haven’t you…"

Another letter is this time frame, perhaps also from this "Zodiac", was a demand that the Washington Post classified run this ad as a secret message:

DANIEL PLEASE CALL HOME

At almost the same time, a message was sent in the same way as the Zodiac Sacramento Cancer and Leo cards – in a prepaid envelope.

This letter was treated as credible, there are 10 pages on it in the files, and 3 kids were killed that March in Atlanta.

Only three cities got this insert for classic model cars that the message came in – Harrisburg PA, Chicago IL and Long Beach FLA.

Perhaps Morf or someone else knows more about the envelope. All I know is what is stated below – there was an address, but it is covered up.

The FBI did not give Morf the ENVELOPE the Atlanta Zodiac letter "HELLO ITS ME" came in.

I just got it.

I had resubmitted my request for 4 Zodiac letters, dropping the request for analysis documents after the "hint" I got from the Justice Department Office of Information Services (and passed on to Morf). The others are the San Jose 1969 letter, the 1978 typed letter and most important the 1971 "In the woods dies April…Monticello" letter.

The envelope is addressed to 1611 W Peachtree ST NE 30308 (or maybe 30808?).

There is a NASA space shuttle sticker in the upper right, it appears to be a special collectors envelope???

Or a special machince cancel? Anyone have any idea how to find out where this machine cancel was used?

See http://spacecovers.com/cgi-bin/cimagedi … m_id=2165A

The stamp is from the Americana Series, the US Flag and the words THE LAND OF THE FREE THE HOME OF THE BRAVE.

Now here is where it gets a little interesting …

Out of this 20 or 22 stamp AMERICANA collection, we have this stamp used on the Zodiac Atlanta letter, and also the Eagle Shield and Flag stamp used on the May 1978 Possible Zodiac letter, the one sent to the LA TV station that referenced a death list and the Manson family.

ALSO…another stamp in this set was used by the Unabomber, AMERICAS LIGHT FUELED BY TRUTH AND REASON, RUSH LAMP.

See http://zodiackillersite.forummotion.com … e-envelope

AMERICANA SERIES

AMERICANA SERIES STAMP USED ON 1981 POSSIBLE ATLANTA ZODIAC LETTER

AMERICANA SERIES STAMP USED ON MAY 1978 POSSIBLE ZODIAC LETTER LOS ANGELES

AMERICANA SERIES STAMP USED ON FOUR UNABOMBER MAILBOMBS 1979 1980 1985 1985

MAY 1978 POSSIBLE ZODIAC LETTER LOS ANGELES ENVELOPE WITH AMERICANA SERIES STAMP EAGLE AND SHIELD

[

Text of May 1978 Possible Zodiac letter and March 1981 Possible Zodiac letter.

Both letters had a stamp from the same 4 stamp sheet from the Americana Series.

Both stamps have the red, white and blue.

Both texts are racist, taunting and mocking.

Both attempt to (mis)lead police into linking Zodiac into other crimes (Manson, Atlanta Child Murders).

Similar shaky handwriting?

Same Zodiac?

Same hoaxer?

Look at the strange "S" in the Atlanta Zodiac envelope.

Now look at the similarly weird "S" on the Riverside poem, it also looks like an upside down "5". Both the Atlanta envelope and the poem have another Zodiac characteristic, a low cross on the "t".

I would bet any money that whoever sent that letter was also behind this series of unsolved crimes:

You could very well be right! …and probably are.

Too bad saliva testing back then didn’t determine these things (gender aside):

"Forensic science has been using minute amounts of saliva to perform DNA sequencing for more than a decade.

New tests can reveal the approximate age of the person through their saliva.

That means that it is now possible for a forensics laboratory to determine the age, gender, race and other identifying factors about subjects through saliva testing."

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

It would certainly fit, wouldn’t it? Zodiac, having been very nearly apprehended in Presidio Heights and having left numerous witnesses and survivors, seemed to draw back from killing and continue to live out his fantasies via threatening letters, all the while taking dubious credit for crimes he almost certainly did not commit. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that a similar offender would adopt identical posturing in Atlanta 15 years later.

I always am interested in hearing about Zodiac style lover’s lane murders in other states, but what makes you think the writer of this letter is the shooter in the Georgia Murders??? Was there a letter with similar writing in the GA case?

Morf, it’s more or less a hunch. With the Atlanta murders coming on the heels of the MASSIVE publicity generated by the Son of Sam, as well as being contemporaneous with the Zodiac’s "re-emergence" via the April 1978 later (which is widely believed to be a fake), my gut tells me that whoever the GA shooter was, he was likely influenced by Berkowitz and Z, which leads me to think that he could very well have been the author of this obvious forgery. Like I said, it’s a hunch and given that these murders are unsolved with (presumably) no active leads, an analysis of the 1981 letter (especially in light of advances in DNA technology) certainly couldn’t hurt.

The FBI indicated that the author of the Zodiac letters, SHOULD NOT be eliminated as the author of the ‘HELLO IT’S ME’ letter. According to them, there’s a possibility that Zodiac wrote this letter. I for one am open to the possibility. The fact it doesn’t look very much like the confirmed zodiac letters, is what makes me think it may be real, as a hoaxer would go out of their way to make the writing look like zodiac’s

FWIW. This letter troubles me.

Troubles me in a way that I think it could actually be from Z. There are elements in it that conform to elements in other Zodiac letters. Problem is that they are difficult to categorize. IF it is from Z then it’s obviously not his handwriting, it’s heavily disguised and that’s the problem I think the FBI had when analysing it. There’s elements that made me stop and think, hmmm, hold on a moment here, is this possibly real? The FBI saw them too and were unsure enough to actually say, DON’T rule this out.

There are certain little ticks and turns on some letters that conform to actual habits in Z’s writing. Problem is that because this is disguised writing, it’s hard to know if they are habits or just coincidental in their similarity. That’s what makes this interesting, the fact that the similarities exist at ‘habit’ level.

Isn’t that enough you may ask? Surely that means it is him. Well, yes and no. There are also new elements in this writing and at the same level that provide the curveball so to speak. That’s why the FBI can’t say for sure but I can see why they are cautious with this one. Out of all the ‘possibles’ in regards letters in this case, this one IMO, deserves to be studied. I think the FBI were as good as saying that in their official response.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

The handwriting is very different from the early letters, but then again, Z’s handwriting wasn’t a static thing. The early letters are messy but he cleans it up for the Belli card. By 1974, you have the Red Phantom letter, which looks like the work of someone else entirely, which is strange to me, as the SLA and Badlands letters are incognito but still betray the Zodiac’s unmistakable handwriting.

Personally, I see some superficial handwriting similarities between Hello, It’s Me and the Red Phantom letters but very few between Hello, It’s Me and the original run of Zodiac letters from 1969/70. Has the Atlanta letter ever been analyzed forensically?

I contacted the USPS a week or so ago, but have received no reply. I think it is a USPS cancellation, because its words are visible on the body of the stamp. They would not be visible through the stamp if they were part of a special collector’s envelope.
