Hello everyone, I’m xEnigm4x, but feel free to call me by my real name, Michael.

First of all, let me start off by saying thank you for allowing me to be a part of this great forum. I’ve been "peeking thru the pines", so to speak, at many boards and forums for the past couple of years. I only recently found this particular site and, I don’t know, I just felt like this was the one that felt most comfortable.

There’s really not much to tell about myself, I’m just one of those people that loves cold case files, serial killers, unsolved mysteries and so forth. I only came about The Zodiac by chance.

Up until early 2010, I never had even heard about the mysterious man who terrorized the city of San Francisco and the surrounding areas, who called himself The Zodiac. It was shocking to me that I had overlooked this case all these years, while knowing all about Ted Bundy, The Green River Killer, John Wayne Gacey, Ted Kaczynski, Manson, and many many others.

It happened to be a cold January day in 2010, I was bored, and decided to check out one of those online movie sites that people upload new releases onto and kick back with a cold beer and enjoy a good movie.

Now I usually go for movies that are documentaries or are mystery/murder/based on true stories, so I clicked on that type of genre that I was looking for, and of course there were several to choose from. I remember reading the plot/synopsis of several movies and not feeling any of them were going to live up to my liking or expectations…that is until I came across the David Fincher movie, Zodiac.

That was the day that I became obsessed with this case. Right from the opening scene of Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau being attacked at Blue Rock Springs, and the Zodiac making that chilling call to the police dispatcher, it drew me in and wouldn’t let me go.

After watching, I remember sitting there and just absorbing it all, and knowing I had to have more. I can only liken it to being addicted to heroine or some other form of drug. I had to learn more about this infamous killer. I did a Google search and found quicky that I wasn’t the only person who was intrigued by this case, as I found many, many youtube videos, and countless message boards. Of course the main one that popped up was ZK.com, (Tom Voights site)

Since that day, I have visited so many different message boards, read so many different theories and just absorbed all I could about the different known victims, the suspected victims, the many different suspects, the crime scene photos, the police reports…any little tid bit I could read about.

I never joined any of the sites, as really I was only checking them out to read what I could, and didn’t think I had anything to contribute. I still feel that way to some extent. I don’t know what I could contribute, other than opinions and theories that I have thought about over the past 3 or so years.

So basically, that’s what I offer this site…just opinions, just random ideas that may pop into my head from time to time. I’m sure most of my ideas or opinions will be blown out of the water, but I’ve always believed that the more sets of eyes and ideas and theories about this case, the better. As they say, where one door closes, it may lead to another door opening.

I do hope, and still hold out a little bit of belief, that one day, this case can be solved, and that the victims, their families and friends of these horrible tragedies can finally have some closure.

I look forward to conversing with all of you.

Welcome aboard Michael.

I pretty much ended up involved in a similar fashion. For me it was through the Exorcist III, which centred around murders bearing the hallmarks of a dead serial killer called ‘Gemini’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exorcist_III

I wondered naively at the time if there had been such a killer.Well of course I found Zodiac and that he was the inspiration. I was stunned I hadn’t heard of him either. The codes, the letters. That was quite a while ago and I too naturally found the forums and just read for a few years before joining one.

No one thinks they have much to contribute at first but one thing you can’t fail to do is learn stuff just from being around the members on a forum. I might have even got a bit ‘investigatey’ from it. Mostly though I just make nice diagrams lol.

Lots to learn and lots to read. Welcome to Z-land and all that brings.

Trav.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

Thanks Traveller, I’m happy to be here. I look forward to participating often and also absorbing everyone’s take on things. I always keep an open mind and am very interested in what others have to say. :D

You know, I never have watched that movie, but after going to that link you posted and seeing that the Zodiac killer was the inspiration for the movie itself, I’m definitely going to give it a watch :)

Welcome, Enigma.

I was gonna say essentially what morf said. Opinions and observations are all most of us can contribute here but there are some folks who are great at doing people research, working on codes and all of the other bussy work that this case has to offer. It is… well, an enigma, so you should be right at home.

Hi enigma!

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969
