My respects to the involved families. I hoped that the message would contain a name or some other piece of valuable information to the investigation but in turn we got more hurt. I am sorry.

It did turn out to be a period 19 cipher…

I wish to thank everyone that worked on this problem. Especially Sam for finding the needle in the period 19 haystack and David (doranchak) for recognizing a garbled solution that otherwise had not a great AZdecrypt score.

I would like to think that the many years of collaboration of the Zodiac Cipher Mailings & Discussion community members lie at the base of this achievement.
The discovery of period 19, the work and understanding of it, the many other observations, all happened right here. And perhaps, a few times we came unbelievable close to solving it. As doranchak says in his video, "this thing was a beast".

– smokie treats for all his work and collaboration on period 19. You were one of the driving forces behind some of the bigger threads on the forum which spawned so many observations and understandings. The countless test ciphers that you created forged AZdecrypt.
– Largo for all his work. I used Peek-a-boo to visualize the problems in the 2nd Z340 rectangle which made it easy for me to figure out how to fix it.

as someone who has followed your work for years i could not be prouder of a group of folks on the internet. your unwavering dedication and positive outlook had as much to do with this as your knowledge of encryption. congratulations on a well-deserved victory.

Congrats team! You all deserve some admiration(and rest).
I have always said that it takes a special kind of person to have the patience to work on ciphers and meet with failure over and over, only to go back to the drawing board to start over. You are all those special people!

Now back to work there are still 2 unsolved ciphers!

Just a note, wouldn’it make much more sense if the two extra words would be put at the end? In this way you don’t have repetitions, and the message ends with a very fitting “Death is life”

Congrats! It’s been fascinating reading your attempts over the years. What a payoff. Thanks to all for the dedication. Few will understand how much you put into it but I think we get it here!
