The good news for me is last I heard Riverside was involved in it, which is cool because before Bud Kelly took over Bates was a confirmed Zodiac victim.

I hope they’re generous with the amount of evidence they swab. I know it’s probably expensive and budget constraints blah blah blah, but what’s the worst case? You catch Bates’s killer, or some sicko hoaxer who aught to be prosecuted anyway. Or you might catch some copy cat killer we didn’t know about. The point is all of these letters are from people who committed a crime, so I don’t think now is the time to be all frugal with what gets tested. Also it only takes one of the hoax letters to contain DNA and turn out to be real to blow the whole lid off this thing.

Yes, I think it’s possible.

Very interesting, I imagine it would increase the likelihood of success with genealogy.

Thanks. Always thought it was a bit misleading and confusing esp for any new people.

So to disambiguate everything, there was no DNA uploaded to GEDMatch? Is that like saying there is no viable DNA, or that it is just not a long enough sequence to upload? Or do we even know? If they have been working this long on isolating DNA and don’t have a good sequencing from Z, that seems to speak volumes.

If Riverside is involved at this point in time, that would seem to confirm Bates as a Z case. Which would not be a surprise.

The writer admitted they had mixed up the EAR case with Zodiac, and removed the Sac County/GEDmatch references from the article. It is literally just a 2-year-old story about Vallejo submitting a couple of envelopes for analysis.

Yes, I think it’s possible.

I’ve heard some similar chatter too. I think there will be some movement in both the Riverside & Bates cases(and that movement may be intertwined)

Could some of you can resume the state of things regarding this DNA and GED match sketch. English is not my first language, and i’m afraid that i don’t understand the recent posts. From what I had read and thought I understood, law enforcement sent out envelopes for further analysis, I thought they found common DNA on them and were looking for a link via GED match. if what I understand now is correct, they did not enter the DNA on GED match but it is possible that what they found is related to the cheri jo bates case? which would make the riverside police collaborate to finally link the crimes of bates and the Zodiac. Have I got this all straight ? excuse me if my question sounds stupid but I would like to make sure I understand.

There is a lot of unofficial news and rumors. It’s safe to say that work is being done behind the scenes. If you want official info, wait for it to come from official sources
