Anybody know any details on this letter, known as QC35 in the FBI reports as far as date sent, or anything else?

It possibly is encrypted with the same cipher code like the 340..it has a trigraph (HER) a digraph (the two circles with lines through it) as well as the + as double letter (++) in it. Also, the last 5-6 symbols are identical, too.
As far as I know this is the Fairfield letter, postmarked in Fairfield and sent to the SF Chronicle on December 7, 1969

Good observation, the cipher here starts off with the same 1st 4 symbols as the 340, and ends with the last 5 symbols that the 340 ends with. To you cipher guys, any clue from this possibly? Perhaps Zodiac sent this cipher since they didnt solve the 340 soon enough? I am trying to verify the date this was sent, obviously if it was sent BEFORE the 340, this would be an unquestioned Z letter due to the matching symbols to start & end the cipher, but I cant verify the date it was sent. It’s known as QC35 in the questioned docs FBI list, and I can’t see mto find the details for QC35, AK or Dave, do you have QC35 info?

This was 12/7/69 from Fairfield.
Long time ago I gave a shot at the code I bumped the thread in the cipher section.
I see now that 3rd letter is not an A but likely an R.
I mostly stand by my code solving effort using Harden Key and other elements but I no longer endorse the extreme wide anagrams I used in my second stage.

340 was 11/8/69. So almost exactly a month before this one.
Thanks for posting a better quality version than the one i mostly see used.
No problem,I have had this sitting in a bunch of files I am sorting out, figured I would post it.

To you cipher Guys, I know it’s just a guess, but assume for a second, this is a real Z letter sent almost a month to the day after the 340. Zodiac is calling attention to the first 4 symbols & last 5 symbols that match the 340. What kind of clue could that be? A name? I guess it could be anything, but seems to pay special attention to those symbols.

This is why the S.F. Chronicle, among others, should not have plastered Zodiac’s work all over their papers.
I don’t know if it was AK that first suggested it but It was his posts about it that I saw recently. Pertaining to this letter being written by the author of the ‘this state’ and ‘bleeding knife’. I would say it’s a pretty safe bet they are the same person.
I see there are 38 symbols used on this one. If they are the same person I wonder if there’s any correlation between the two ciphers.
Here’s this one compared to the 340 and the major continuity lifts. The start and the end and I’ve also included the 3rd line compared to the 18th line in the 340. Just observations nothing to add comment wise. EDIT – added WBI.
Good eye Trav. What sucks is, since this letter contains an even shorter cipher, its likely to be more difficult to solve

This letter looks very fake.
The writing doesn’t have any fluidity and much of the content could have been copied from the 340 letters.

Let’s not forget, in 1969, at the time of this letter, the only picture of the 340 that a copycat or forger would have likely seen, would be a choppy, blurry photo that ran in the newspaper. I am not so sure they actually had a photo of the actual 340 in the papers by then. Didn’t we just discuss the fact that a Chronicle Artist had to sketch some zodiac writing from a letter and place the drawing of the letter in the Chron,as opposed to just placing an actual photo of the letter? Perhaps, police would not allo them to place a photo of the actual original letter itself in the paper. In my opinion, that would make it much more difficult to hoax

Put in context with confirmed Z communications, I really don’t even understand what the point of this letter would have been if it was penned by Zodiac.
He’s going to kill again. Was he ever less than clear about this?
He’s going to kill a cop. This was perhaps not implicitly threatened before but Z was never shy about expressing his animosity for cops.
He’s going to turn himself in. Sure, it predates Z’s request for "help" in the Belli letter but comes shortly after the whole fiasco of Belli on the Dunbar show offering help for Zodiac at what was thought to possibly be Z’s request.
Here’s a new cipher. Well, kinda new but I plagiarized the beginning and end of the one I just sent to you a month ago.
I just honestly don’t find anything very compelling or original about these Fairfield letters. The writing is decent but I honestly think the sloppiness of the cipher content is a huge red flag, IMO.

I agree. We can’t be certain but Zodiac seemed to be somewhat invested in his cipher stuff. Not just from the point of being functional but also somewhat aesthetically pleasing. From that alone these don’t make sense. They deviate from his usual style and are treated almost like throw away decoration.
All the cipher text letters are in the 340. The cipher text "uZ" here is also a bigram from the 340, if you want to add that to copied chains.
